Why do you want to be here:
Feb. 4th, 2005 12:51 amGeneral Ass kissing:
'Philosophy is, literally, the love of wisdom. I want to find out what that means, in terms of how we can understand the word "wisdom," in today's societies, and working toward an ultimately diverse conception of the word. The ideas of metaphysics as understanding the "true nature" of reality, as well as the implications of the suggestion posited, so far, have real implications and ramifications, in everyday life. Definitive answers to the questions of whether our actions are determined, whether we are free to choose, or any number of combinations of the two, will have vast impacts on the ways in which we handle questions ranging from abortion and capital punishment, to the methods by which we educate our children. Also, the nature of the materials we present, to them. A greater understanding of these matters helps us to better understand the world.'
Massive Attack - [Teardrop]--- And then, the school specific asskissing:
'I feel that, at Georgia State, I will have access to one of the fastest growing interdisciplinary groups available, today, as well as the flexibility to explore it. I want to work in the religious studies track, with focuses in Metaphysics and Comparative Religions, working toward a greater understanding of why religious and philosophical distinctions-- at least as they are found in the West-- tend to be normative. The tendency to call one understanding "right" and another "wrong" seems to pervade Western culture and, with as diverse a staff as is found in the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department, I think that much headway can be made in understanding this question. I think that I have many perspectives from which to learn, and an interesting perspective to add, to this ongoing dialogue and discussion.'
Warren Zevon - [Lawyers, Guns and Money]--- And it's a good thing. They want a writing sample, no more than 4500 words. I wonder if something writeen previously is ok. I'll have to check requirements.
RazorBladeKisses - [No Strings Attached]--- God i'm tired... Off to finish this.
