Björk - [Hyper-Ballad]--- You want to talk about a certain thing. You want that thing to infest the minds of people, everywhere, as a concept, as a thing about which they should think, and debate, and talk. You want things to have a near-irresistable force, in the global idea market.

How do you do it?

What features do you give a thing, to make it understandable to all, without making some feel condescended to, and others talked over? Not all, mind you. Someone is always going to want to feel offended, for whatever reason. (Björk - [Human Behaviour]). But enough that the idea is spread. That it's put out into the world...

How do you make a "viral idea"?

This line of questioning brought to you by the need to figure people out, and understand what the fuck is going on, as well as some meme I was thinking about doing, but then I realised that you all want to sleep with me, anyway, so it was pointless. *Grins*

And the trick is to make sure it's changeable, but not too much so. Simple, streamlined, but not simplified. Spiral it enough to trap them, and make it familiar enough that they Like being trapped.

*licks*

That's the thing I'm trying to do. I use the familiar words, and all the right moves, I show honest bits of self, but maybe it's too much. Too familiar.

Interesting that you posted about this. It reminds me of my dad. My dad was a psychologist that was very interested in this idea and he was researching it just before he died- he never did finish his research. I have this memory of standing in his kitchen with him telling us about memes and what they were. I was maybe 10 at this point in time. There was some idea he wanted us to remember because he was testing the concept on us since we were young (and therefore impressionable.) I don't remember the idea but I remember the story of memes and being fascinated by it. It was one of the things that got me interested in the idea of world consciouness. I wish I knew how they were created but I don't think even my dad, who seemed all knowing, knew how.

That's very strange. I didn't know your dad worked with that kind of stuff. Is any of his work published? If so, I'd like to read it, if that's ok, with you.

You know, I honestly don't know. He died when I was 12 and I never found out. I'd have to ask my step mother. His name was Dr. Gerard V. Grant, so if you want to look, that's who you'd look for. He wrote Significare which is on my website but past that and his doctoral thesis, his writing is lost to me unfortunately.
