I hate you:
May. 19th, 2006 11:05 amLUXT - [Perpetusex]--- "English" is not our national language. We are an off-shoot dialect of English, known as American, with its own sub-dialects and nuances, dependent upon settlement of people who sounded the same. And you know what? That's Awesome.
I'm reminded of the briefly mentioned War of Verbals, in Transmetropolitan, where the one informant told Spider that his country just wanted to keep their language primary, in their country. (Tori Amos - [Sweet Dreams]). There's nothing wrong with that, you know, but admit what your language is. Admit that language is a living thing and that it changes, will change, and that what we call English, today, bears resemblance to its origins, but is by no means the same. Can you read an untranslated copy of Beowulf? I mean, yeah, you probably can, because you're fricking awesome, but most people cannot.
311 - [Loco]--- There are many languages, in this world, and they are all amazing. We should be teaching them to each other, so that we may communicate with each other, in any medium, rather than trying to make it "easier," and making people that little bit lazier.
We kill our language centres earlier and earlier, these days. Children get no linguistic reinforcement. I was taught Spanish, and Latin, starting when I was 8, for Spanish, and at 10 and 11 for latin.. (Prince of Persia - Sands of Time - [The Last Fight]). What the Hell is wrong with that? Nothing, that's what.
More languages. Not less.
{EDIT: 11.19am: A Perfect Circle - [Rose]--- "It's time to move past what seems to me to be an endless picking apart of the archaeology of every past intelligence success or failure," Hayden told the Senate Intelligence Committee at his confirmation hearing Thursday. "The CIA needs to get out of the news-- as source or subject-- and focus on protecting the American people."
No no no no no no no no no no.
Have we always been at war with Eurasia? Don't ask that question.
Fuck. (Rasputina - [Herb Girls of Birkenau]). I hate sounding like a paranoiac, but it's so damned easy, these days...}

Date: 2006-05-19 08:10 pm (UTC)If you could do me a favour, and maybe give me a ride to my mother's house, so that I could get and give her things, that would be awesome. That would need to be about mid-day, if possible. If not, I'll see you later during the day.
