Just re-read it, yesterday, and I still completely stand by my position.

I still HATE the love-interest sideplot but then I always hate that. In this case, however, I really think it diluted the essentiality of V's portrayal as an aloof observor - in fact that whole aspect of his character was completely wiped from teh movie and that was what I missed most.
