Lyrics: "Leaving"
Feb. 20th, 2006 07:52 pmAlan Moore made me do it. Well, Alan Moore,
u_madman asking for a sequel to that story, and a need to play with rhythm and voice adjustment. God i love the spelling of that word. "Rhythm." It's Lovecraftian. Speaking of whom, I started reading the Dream Cycle compilation, today. Awesome as always.
Anywho, here's lyrics.
ego_likeness, not to put any unreasonable requests into the internets, but i heard Donna's voice, while i was writing this. Helped me keep cadence and flow.
And no, I don't write music. I've just got a vague sound, in my head, and i'll know it if and when it links up with something in the world.
When I left to find my way
I made myself forget about you.
If I had lasted one less day
Maybe I wouldn't have found your truth.
I always knew I'd meet you there--
Thoug you'd left my mind and heart--
And, when I saw your eldritch stare,
I knew you'd take me back to the start.
(Chorus)
And I'm leaving St. Louis, today;
I swore I'd never let you lose my way.
When you found and read my story,
Claimed I'd never have to worry,
Knew one day I'd steal your glory,
And now I'm leaving St. Louis
Darling, I've always known your voice,
I'm sure I've always heard your words.
Ritual removal of every choice,
Your language changed mine for the worse.
Your tongue on my flesh digs deep,
Teeth mark me to the core;
You know I know when you're asleep
But I can't take your breath, anymore.
(Chorus)
(Guitar Solo)
Met you on the street, in the rain;
Took the pieces of me, from you;
You can never affect me, again,
And I will never be free of you.
I ran my hand against your hand
Our eyes look into one and another (and another).
You always gave me strength to stand,
But I've left you in the gutter.
I lost Saint Louis, today,
In your final caress I have found my way;
Your lips and mind formed the end of the story,
You're fading fast and I'll never worry
Killed your memory, reclaimed my glory--
Slew the monster you'd become,
Embraced the changes that I'd won
Became the thing to which I use to pray (And, in the end, I turned away)--
And now I'm leaving St. Louis.

That's it.
As I said, Lovecraft all day, so "eldritch" had to go, in. Plus it fit cadence. Why St. Louis? A story in my head, a place a I used to live, and I simply like the sound.
Later.
