God I feel stupid. I worry about the memory of my professors, the way they can call up obscure pieces of knowledge, from nothing, and no, not only the ones who are 30 years older than I.

I worry about the same thing, in my supposed colleagues.

I feel stupid today.

Ask me to explain something, so that i may feel more secure in my analytical skills, and my ability to remember shit good.

I need to go to this Religion and the State lecture.

Back later.

Explain Marvel Comic's Age of Apocalypse story arc.

And don;t try to cop out with that tired excuse of "I didn't read it".

In the early sixties, prior to losing the use of his legs and forming the X-Men, Professor Charles Xavier worked in Israel, with Eric Magnus Lehnsherr and Gabrielle Haller, the latter of whom was to soon after carried Charles' child, David, to term, and birth him.

David Haller was a schizophrenic mutant, with Disassociative Identity Disorder. Each personality had a different power, as well as name, and temperment. After doing battle with his son, and leaving him in a coma, for a number of years, Xavier left David in the care of his mother, and pretty much forgot about them, until, one day, David woke up. Upon waking, his mother found that her son was whole, no longer the fractured shell he had been. Unfortunately (for everyone else), the healing of David's mind also allowed for the conjunction of all of his powers. The whole was then greater than the sum of its parts.

Still slightly off-kilter, David does not take the news of his father's abandonment very well. He wants to make his father's dream come true, wants to make his father love him, and realises that, to do so, Magneto must be stopped, before he can begin. Time travel ensues, freaking out Bishop and Cable, and the following battle leads to one of the greatest uses of Iceman's powers, ever: He freezes every molecule of water in David's Body. This does not work.

David, now known as "Legion," having defeated all of the X-Men to Kill Eric Magnus Lehnsherr. One problem: Charles doesn't know David from Adam, and Eric his best friend in the entire world. Charles leaps in front of the killing blow, and dies.

David ceases to exist, as do the X-Men as we know them. Magneto leads, as a rememberance of his friend, who diesd to save him, but his eadership is not the same. He is not as strategically inclined. Apocalypse gains and holds power, destroying as many humans as he can, while keeping the rest as slaves, or enforcers.

Bishop, who now has about three diferent timelines, in his head, eventually finds Magneto, and explains the world. Magneto makes to change history. The final fight between Magneto and Apocalyse is is one of the best damned things ever. Bishop goes Back back in time, and Stops David, David kills himself, and No One remembers him. He never existed.

Flash foward to the "Avengers: Disassembled," "House of M" and "Marvel: Decimation" storylines. After killing many of the Avengers, Wanda Maximoff has Changed the world to her father's dream, had it come crashing down around her, changed it back with the words "No More Mutants," and left roughly 1000 mutants on the face of the planet. Dr Henry "Hank" McCoy put it best, when he said that mutant potential is an Energy, and that has just been released into the ether. Where did it go?

Enter shadowy figure with Massive amounts of power, over pretty much everything. And we're off.

Good enough for govt. work.

1."Time travel ensues, freaking out Bishop and Cable..."
One of the best lines ever.

2. His codename was always Legion, due to his 3 personalities.

3. He didn't just "abandon" him. He left him in the care of Gabrielle and Moira macTaggert b/c not even his power was enough to help the boy.

4. 198 mutants left, not 1,000.

5. "Where did it go?"
I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] jessicarabbit is using it in her NIntendo DS.

Thanks and glad you feel slightly better.

1) Thank you.

2) You're right, I forgot about that.

3) Moira wasn't his caregivver, anymore, and I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons she left him.

4) You're right, hence the new mini-series tie-in "198".

5) You forgot a "t"

Thanks.

Explain to me how to kill people with my mind. Don't lie to me, I'm sure you've figured it out by now.

It's a matter of looking at it in a very Epicurean kind of way: You mind is moved by small movements, from the larger world: Why can't it work in reverse? Figure out the way to work from the quantum to the atomic, from the atomic to the molecular, from the molecular to the chemical, from the chemical to the cellular, and from the cellular to the organic, and you'll have it perfectly figured out.

Communicate with yourself. It'll be fine.

When put like that, it doesn't sound nearly as far fetch'd. But what if she doesn't beleive in the quantum level?

Then that sounds like an entirely personal problem. Until you work at the unification of the large and the small, the universal and the personal, all you've got is potential.

Lots of people tell me, and that's part of the problem. Sometimes i think you all might be wrong, and that i'm just an amazing bullshitter.

But i guess even that is Something, right?
