I'm reading the His Dark Materials series, and the word "Skraeling" keeps popping up, and i know it, immediately, as meaning "Native American." And it was bothering the shit out of me, where i'd first read it... I narrowed it down to "Something by Neil Gaiman," thinking either of the Shakespear section of "The Wake," or American Gods, and i just confirmed that it was the latter...

That word... Has weird twitchings, in my head. Thinking of The Norse meeting, falling in love with, trading with, breeding with, Cherokee... Apachee... Things like that...

Following the line of my waking, this morning, today was mostly shite. Many more people were rude, and upset, for no reason, than were courteous, and appreciative. On the upside, i did get more reading done, today.

I like this series, a lot.

Back later, as i'm off to find foods.

Actually, I think I have a copy of Amber Spyglass that I found in a used book store. I just need the first two now.

Speaking of which, did you know that there's a second part to American Gods now in the form of a short story? It's called "Monarch of the Glen" and it shows up in Legends II: Shadows, Gods and Demons, edited by Robert Silverberg.

Makes ME think of Orson Scott Card, personally. Ramen, Framling, and Varelse.

Haven't read any Card other than the Ender Series.... Oh right... Children of the Mind... That book was another few Chapters, to Xenocide.... Split them, because he didn't want to make it that long...

Xenocide was Tops, though.

Actually, it was mostly "Speaker for the Dead", the second book. Xeno was third, Children was fourth. They recently put out the story of "Bean", which is okay.

Let me be more clear: I've read the Entire Ender Cycle, which includes Bean, in my opinion. Same people, different perspectives.

I liked Shadow of the Hegemon.

And, yeah, Speaker was good. Xeno Great. Children? Not so much.

Okay. We're in agreement and clear, now. *chuckles*
Sorry for the misinterpretation.

I think I need to re-start that series. And to pick up a set, as I hate having different versions of a series when I could have ones that go together. Book snob, yes. ^_^

And there was a vignette-interlude involving the Skraeling in American Gods; it's how Odin and co. made it here. I think it was the native boy they sacrificed.

Yeah, i remembered. Like i said, it took me a second, and i had to get Home to my books, but i searched, while in the middle of that post, and found which one it was.

And i don't find it Bad to be a book snob, as long as it doesn't get in the way of utliity. *licks*
