wolven7Lamb - [Gabriel]--- In Pentacostalism, Speaking in Tongues, Healing, Casting Out, and Prophecy are all "Charismata," or "Gifts of the Spirit."
These days, Tongues are called "Glossolalia," and are thought to be a seizure-induced disorder, caused by pressure on the language centre of the brain. Remember the quote, from before. Except for prophecy, the other three are not what i really want to discuss, so much, but i want to some more, about Glossolalia. (The Dresden Dolls - [Truce]). It is meant to be a language, beyond the Human tongue, meant to access, directly, into the brain, with the language that the listener knows best. It is meant to give lessons, and commands, and meant to make draw attention to it so that people will hear, and understand. It is not the Word. But it is close.
You hear the words you know, to convey a message you don't, yet. You must simply be willing to hear, which is why most people are caught off guard, with it. If it is meant to be told to you, then you will hear it. In recent years, there is the tradition of having an interpreter, for the Speaker, but that's not how it originally was. When the first apostles spoke in tongues, those assembled understood. That was the nature of the Gift. It was meant to be heard. Iggy Pop - [Passenger]--- Let's move on to Prophecy. My grandmother had this gift. She dreamed the future, and it was clear. It's... a traditionally matrilineal gift. I had it for a while. Still get it, from time to time. But my prophetic dreams are all at least part metaphor, now. And if they aren't metaphor, then weep for the future. Anyway. Prophecy can be transmitted, in waking visions, in automatic writings, in dreams, in staring into a mirror and seeing something wonderful, terrible, mundane, whatever. But it's... Rare that you get something terribly useful. No lottery numbers. No stock market tips. But that's part of the thing, is that i look at it all the same way ("Oh, here it comes..."): It's all kinds of tapping into patterns and designs.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast - [I am Under Your Spell]--- Be they made by you, or by more "Over-arching" forces, you connect, more fully with it, and see a bit of it.
It's the kind of thing that needs to be practiced, to be understood, needs expolring, and building upon. It's kind of like walking, that way...
I know i'm getting a little weird, with this bent, but this... is one of the first synchronous connections i ever found, in my life. (Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [Worship Me Like A God]). Telling my family, about my dreams, and learning about my grandmother, and then about Pentacostalism, and then the more i learned, over the folowing eight years, of my life. Not in any kind of directed study, but in people entering and exiting my life, and telling me experiences, and beliefs. It... is another of those building blocks.
Things that make me who i am. And i haven't given it nearly enough time in the spotlight...

Date: 2004-06-30 07:39 pm (UTC)I'll have to agree. I find that to be true for me as well. Funny. My grandmother has this gift. I sometimes tap into it. It comes and goes. Not all that strong, but there just the same.
