One of them was to become infatuated with an 8 year old girl, and look up to her as some kind of mentor, but the other was more important, in certain respects. I learned that when the cicadas are around, you are Not.

Johnny Cash - [The Man Comes Around]--- These People are just now learning this. Cicadas are not really dangerous, nor are they "Evil," per se. They sure as hell aren't locusts, mind you, but there Are A Lot of Them. They colour the sky, and they cover every surface. There are trillions of them, in the 17 year cycle. Do you understand how many a Trillion is? That is one thousand times 1 Billion Cicadas, ok? That's a lot of god damned bugs.

So no, they aren't safe to be around, because they hit your windshield, and fly in your throat, and get in your hair, and they Smear, you get me? (Auf der Maur - [Beast of Honor]). They're sticky, and they smear. It's fucking gross.

Now, i respect cicadas, in that, if they don't bother me, i don't kill them. And the reverse is also true, because cicadas? They're fucking ravenous. They will destroy your shade trees, and your crops, and your garden.

Keep this in mind, at all times.

All I know is I have a Severe phobia of anything that makes a lot of noise as it flies, due to an experience with a hornet and my ear when I was about four. This summer is going to be spent twitching...
