KMFDM - [Anarchy]--- I just saw one of the most appaling advertisements i've ever seen, in all of my years of television. A boy (looked at the site, he's Cambodian) speaking about "Communists." I think to myself "New Tom Clancy Game?" No. He continues to speak, about how "Communists" broke down his door, and killed his family. He never says what country he's from, nor which Communist Regime did this to him. Throughout the entire commercial, as he speaks, there are neawrly subliminal flashes of families-- White, American families-- the American flag, and U.S. Military Troops. He continues to talk about what "the Communists" have done to him, and how his father died because of them... It ends with the line "Why did I come to this country?" ending on a shot of the American Flag, fading to black, and the word "Freedom" appears, in big bold white letters, on the black background.

Peter Schilling - [Major Tom]--- "Appreciate It." Fade out. "Cherish it." Fade out. "Protect it." Fades out, and "Freedom.org" fades in. "Rememberfreedom.org" Fade out.

I thought i was going to be fucking sick.

Listen. I'm not some knee-jerk liberal, but that was Fucked Up. An entire system of government was painted as evil and wrong, and as if all Communist regimes commit horrible attrocities, against their citizens. Couple of news flashes, for you: First, this is not the 1950's, and McCarthy is dead and gone. Secondly, the actions of certain exemplified systems of government, Communisim, or otherwise, do not represent all of them. (Moxy Früvous - [B.J. Don't Cry]). That was nothing but an emotional, vague, extraordinarily general commercial, with no true substance behind it. It was... it was garbage.

Look at the material on the site. It can, in fact, be seen from a multitude of views. You can see it as "America is Perfect and Wonderful, and anyone who disagrees is a goddamned Terrorist," or you can see it as "America Stand for something, and it's up t o us to make sure that that Ideal comes to fruition." (Akira - [Battle With The Clowns]). But do keep in mind that all spotlighted parties, the people who have come to "Freedom," in this country, are only from Communist and Former Communist countries.

Communism is not the only other system out there, besides Democratic Capitalism. There are Fascisms, and Brutal Dictatorships, and True Democracies (ideally), and Pure Republics.

Other worlds than these...

Yeah, the art of propaganda can really be taken overboard sometime. I wonder if that kid was telling the truth or what.

He might have been. But there were still no Facts, no supporting evidence... It was a purely emotional gambit. >_

Sometimes, the advertising agencies are more at fault than anything. What was the line again? Something to the effect of "Nothing is more amazing about america than the brilance of the PR agencies and the stupidity of her people."
I forget who said it, but still. There you go.

A recent post regarding "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers, wanting people to be more specific:
Are they proud of what America stands for, free speech and religion and equal rights for everybody but gays? Are they proud of what America does, helping countries in need or bombing the Iraqi water supply? Are they proud of themselves, individually? It's a lot easier to be an American than it is to be a good person...
And so on. Echoes of that, here. Durai's a bit of a ham, but he's got good points to make now and then.
