Little People
Mar. 27th, 2004 07:27 pmI wrote this earlier, to a group of people talking about Faeries, Elves, Trolls, and Dwarves, in Iceland. One of the main reasons i want to go. That, and Loki.
'You ever been to iceland? Once, a while ago, they were going to bulldoze some of the smallish rock formations-- piles of stones that looked like built caves, or stone huts-- which resided in fields. Every single time the bulldozers went into the field, they would break down, and in incresingly drastic ways. They would run fine, until they got near the stones, and then they would break. The stones were the homes of the Little People.
'So, if you go to iceland, you'll see houses, houses, stores, shops, office buildings, Empty Lots With Piles of Stones In Them.
'As an Icelandic friend of a friend of mine once said: "You don't Fuck with the Little People."'
I was, and still am, watching "Donnie Darko," for the stupid-teenth time, and i thought about something, in watching Sharita interactions with Donnie. How it's weird that people will/have to/want to take any show of kindness, or protection, as affection. That the world can be so bereft of courtesy, and general compassion, that something of the like, from a stranger has to stick out. It's not really bad or good, and it's both. It has it's sad points, and it's beautiful points, because that showing is then special, which means that the person to whom it is shown is special. Weird Cycle.
Just got back from the store, with my mom. She let me drive her truck, and it feels more natural, more Correct, that i drive, the more that i drive.
I'm going to go finish watching "Donnie Darko." Later.
