There are a lot of things, there, about which you can talk. First of all, did you watch the DVD, or a vhs tape? The DVD has pages from "The Philosophy of Time Travel," which you can read, if you're willing to squint, and those shed a lot of light on the whole thing.

Some key points to remember, about the ending:

-- Donnie Clutches his abdomen, before he looks up and sees the universe falling apart. Holding the origin point of the "Helpers." The destruction came from Him.

-- Roberta Sparrow Gets her letter, when Donnie understands.

-- Gretchen is Donnie's motivating factor. She signals both his getting everything together, and his breaking everything apart. Her death.

-- Self-Fulfilling Prophecies.

-- The small boy on the bike, who we never ever see, prior to the end. Things had to be balanced, and worked out, from what Donnie did.

-- Donnie created the Tangent Universe, to try to fix Gretchen's Death, and every time she dies, he destroys it, Lashes out at Frank, and starts again. The only way to Stop the tangent universe, is to end it, before it gets the chance to begin. To destroy Donnie, and return the bits and pieces, from whence they came.

That way Gretchen never meets donnie, and they never fall in love, and she doesn't Die, there, and he doesn't have to destroy the universe.

For those of you who didn't see it, i'll say this: You really should see the movie. It's a beautiful Love story.
