St Yeats' Day
Mar. 17th, 2004 04:42 pmBy the way, William Butler Yeats is my new saint. It is now Saint Yeats' Day. Don't forget that.
I'm thinking about something. That Interests Meme, going around-- the one where you look at a person's interest list, and pick one that you either know nothing about, or don't understand why they would like it-- has me thinking about why the interest lists are there, int he first place... In hopes of finding common ones, of course, but also so that, if you find one with which you aren't familiar, you research. Learn new things. I guess tis, really is just a different way of going about that process. So ok.

Let's see what we learn...

Also, do you mean Marvel Comic's Deadpool or s/t else?

G.I.R. is the name of the robot on Jhonen Vasquez's "Invader Zim" cartoon, on Nickelodeon. He is Voiced by the Above-Mentioned Rosearik.
Caitlin R. Kiernan is a horror writer. She wrote Threshold, Silk, and Low Red Moon. Not in that order. She also wrote the last half of The Dreaming series, for Vertigo, at the behest of her friend Neil Gaiman.
Hagakure is the Book of the Samurai. I have a copy, if you'd like to read it.
Yes, Marvel's Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, the Merc with a Mouth.

that is all.

Regarding the stylistic similarities: "Learning from other people," coupled with the similarities, pre-existing. Good picture and name choices, for the server.

The last I get the feeling I should know, but nothing comes to me immediately, and I know you'll enjoy explaining. But you get to return the favor ^_^

Salman Rushdie is a very prolific writer. Most notably, he wrote "Haroun and the Sea of Stories," and "The Satanic Verses." The latter got him a price on his head, from certain Islamic extremist groups.
Xarexcks'carelikcarta is watching the reflection of pale light, in someone's eyes. From, say, a monitor, with a majority white display, a television turned to bright static, or the moon.
I'll certainly return the favour.

Yeah, but that's ok, cause you appreciate the works. :) Creators Are good, though.

At the end of the episode, you would see Zim, looking at the Sky-line, where a Giant Dib, insane, would be wreaking havoc on the entire city.
GIR would be dancing like a monkey, and doing cartwheels. Fade out.

On their wedding day, Orpheus' bride, Eurydice, was, due to... Unfortunate circumstances, chased into the path of an asp, which struck her heel. She died, and Orpheus is ruined. Every song he sings, from that day forward, is for her. Every note, on the lyre, is a tribute to her beauty, and her life. His mother, his Family, everyone who knows of him, and loves him, tries to cheer him, and nothing works. Eventually, he hears of a door to the underworld, to Hades' realm. He travels it. He disowns his father, when he asks his father to help him, and his father refuses, and tries to forbid him, from this course of action.
Death allows him passage to the underworld, but because of this, he can never die.
He meets Chairon, the boatman to the land of the dead, and he plays a song for him, causing him to weep. For this, Chairon warns Orpheus abouth Cerberus, the three-headed dog, who guards the gates of the underworld. Orpheus plays a song that sends Cerberus to sleep. Thus, he enters the underworld.
He finds Hades, and his wife, Persephone, sitting above the legions of the unmoving dead, waiting for the end of the world, and begs for his dear Eurydice. Persephone and Hades ask Orpheus for a song, to display the truth of his love for Eurydice. He plays, and they believe him, but Persephone tells Orpheus that he's made the Furies-- the Bacchante, the Brides of Dionysus-- Cry, and they will Never forgive him. But they show him his bride, and Hades tells him that they must leave by another route. Orpheus must walk up the cavern, and out to the above world, and never look behind him, where his bride will be. She will follow him, the entire way, but he must never look. Then Hades laughs at him.
Orpheus walks the route, Hades' laughter following him, and after that fades, he hears nothing. No footstep, no breath, no shifting of clothing. He begins to see the daylight, at the mouth of the cavern, and still, he hears nothing. He begins to fear that Hades has tricked him, and figures that he's close enough. He looks behind him. Eurydice is there, perplexed, and bewilderd. She looks into his eyes, and is dragged away, back into the underworld. Orpheus screams.
Years pass, and he has fallen, again, into depression. He never plays a note of joy, only mourning. The Bachannte find him, after many years, and they tell him that they will never forgive him, for making them cry. That maybe, Maybe, if he drinks with them, dances with the, and makes love to them, they will let him live. He refuses, as he only loves, and woudl make love To, Eurydice. They try to kill him with rocks, and missles, and fire, but his songs charm them all. They tear him apart, with their bare hands, and dump his head in the river, where it sings of Eurydice, all the way down. It lands on the Isle of Lesbos, and, many belive, remains there, today.
I like the story, because i'm a fan of Cautionary tales and Tragedies. I like tales that warn of trickery, and temperance, and i like that he was willing to literally go to hell and back, for the woman he loved.
Even if he was stupid, and didn't listen to what the man told him. Even if he was being tricked, why take that chance, until you have the possibility of actually Gaining? And thus the lesson.
