Regarding Dean's Outburst: http://www.machall.com/index.php?strip_id=247 I direct your attention to Matt's rants, directly beneath the comic. I definately agree.

{11.21pm:Poe - [Walk the Walk]--- And while i'm on the damned subject, what is it with people? Politeness aside, there should be able to be civilised discourse, in the world, about political beliefs, without it turning into some kind of defensive, posturing, dick waving, "Mine's better, cause it's mine" kind of bull shit. The last time i had a good political debate was, oddly enough, after going to go see "The Last Samurai." (Carmina Burana - [Ego Sum Abbas]). That debate lasted the length of a car ride to someone's house, and was never touched upon, again.

I know that, at dinner, at least on my dad's side of the family, we weren't supposed to bring up religion, politics, or the weather. Because we'd argue. But we all had valid points, and never let our stregth in beliefs block us being able to see that. (Conjure One& Sinead O'Connor - [Tears from the Moon]). We listened, ranted, rebutted, and, if we were convinced, modified our views. It's not that hard... But that's not the point. The point is i miss debate and conversation.

Later.}

If you get up here and meet Des, you'll have nothing but. She's great for political rants and being quite open about the stuff while ranting. I got to listen to a good four hours of that last night and would've enjoyed every minute if the third party wasn't a highly annoying friend of hers from church...

I'm totally ok with that. And, hey, maybe i can talk to her about Religion, too. *grin* I mean, after all, my mom's a minister.

Um... No. Did i say that i was, at some point? If so, i don't remember it, at all... And that's weird. Or are you operating on some other source of information? Only asking due to confusion.

But, to answer your question, no.

Ah. Yeah, that didn't happen. Sorry. Durring the week, on a Tuesday Thursday night, or Mon, Wednes or Fri Day, is generally the best bet for hanging out. Some weekends. But i usually reserve those for homework. We'll see.

It's not supposed to "End." Ideally, debate ends when consensus is reached, and better ways than either of the debaters were arguing are found. Debate ends in progress.

but it makes me tired and frequently grumpy. especially when it gets "impassioned" mostly because this means people have abandoned fact and reason in favor of "mine if better than yours, so there". i feel that actually political debate in a p2p setting will never actually result in tangible progress just grudges and general feelings of inadequacy. i prefer a political debate by mail or posting, so that people can actually sit and think before mouths get opened and emotions get all entangled.

In my opinion, politics shouldn't be a purely intellectual exercise. If there is no passion, then there is no point, because politics don't only affect the mind. They are a part of the whole spectrum. People need to learn to balance passion with reason. It's not impossible. The heart And the mind drive and guide us. Not one or the other.

Progress can be made in a person to person setting, if people go Into the whole thing with an open mind. If you, from the start, refuse to do that, then No, we will never reach a species-wide point, where it is capable.
