Notes on obviously opposite things.
Jan. 10th, 2004 09:55 pmVoltaire - [Irresponsible]--- We want what we can't have. We admire and abhor that which we are not. The ability to simply say "fuck it," and give up the whole of everything, with no thought to consequences, is, sometimes, higly appealing, because it's something that i don't think i can do, without changing something that i see as intrinsically "Me." (Sneaker Pimps - [Spin Spin Sugar]). There are, i think, limits to how much one can allow oneself to change, while still remembering what that "Self" is. Those limits may be broad, or they may be narrow, and, perhaps, overcoming those limits is the entire point to this "existing" garbage... but i digress.
I'll do so, more fully. We change, we grow, we learn new things, and adapt to new situations. This happens, it's part of life. We adapt, or we die. Eventually, as i said, we reach a ceiling. We can't go any more, with the changing, and that's when we start with the dying. We rail about our ways and views, in a situation that no longer accepts them... But it seems there should be... some over-arching Self-Ness, which allows change, in as broad and deep a vein as is necessary, while still allowing the retention of a certain... mode. The ability to permutate, with in, say, a core characterisitc of Caring About Nature, that allows such a sweeping change as to allow you to clear cut a forest, while Still Caring About Nature. (Jack Off Jill - [American Made (Live)]). It is a matter of, i would guess, encompassing the specturm, to travel and use it. Irresponsibility, in the name of responsibility.
That would be{-- again, i guess, but i think i'm making it more than a guess, by this point--} saying "Fuck it," and letting everything fend for itself, so that, in the end, it learned to Fend for, and be responsible for itself... Which is easier to pronounce as a way, than it is to follow, i'm rather sure. But we can always give it a shot, as is appropriate...
I'm just saying we admire and abhor those traits, because they do, in fact, get many things done... They let us see... from different angles...
