Catalyst Carols and Chrysila Geld
Dec. 12th, 2003 07:59 pmSnake River Conspiracy - [Strangled]--- I had a conversation with my dad, day before yesterday, about the section of the dream i had, where i was talking to him, on the refridgerator/computer. He, of course, took the devils advocate route, and we started talking about imbedded systems, and SI-UC/FI-UC (Simple-Interface-to-Ultra-Complex / Functional-Interface-to-Ultra-Complex), and what, exactly that would mean. (The Cure - [Burn]). He never actually got back to me, on my questions, though, so i'll have to call him, soon, and clear that up, in the mean time, here's some thoughts i've been having.
These days, in the majority of this country, we have technological indoctrination, by proxy and context. We are surrounded by tech, and we younger (not "young." "YoungER." I'm talking mostly about 50's and younger) generations either learn to role with it, or get left behind. In some senses, it's not even a choice, we are simply presented with it, and we learn it, because it's there. New cell phones can be navigated in a manner of minutes, because we know that they're cell phones. There are certain theings they're supposed to do. We search for those common things, and we can extrapolate the uncommon, from there. It's simple. Daily isomorphism. And we are in a stage when cross-function imbedding is the chic, verging, as time goes on, on the banal nom. We have cameras in our phones, as well as the internet capabilities of desktops, from last year. (Crüxshadows - [Purgatory]). Hand held devices surpass desk- and laptops, of six months ago. Moore's Law in action (You will not believe how long it just took me to remember that law, even with help. Thanks
strixus.). So, with that in mind, we think about imbedding learning capable, simple interface systems, into devices we use, everyday. (Flaming Lips - [She Don't Use Jelly]). Such as refridgerators, and the like. This kind of thing can be done, with relative easy, while leaving a mainstay of the original intent, for the device. It will still be a ____, only now it's one with a computer, in it. I'm thinking, though... Simple interface. Something that people will get, and to which they will not say, with a Brittish accent "I Fear Change, and rally Against it." Cause that would defeat the whole purpose. So i'm thinking: menu commands. Single function, at a time. Read news, send email, look for something. (Oingo Boingo - [Spider (Mono, Right Chan Only)]). But not all at once. For gods' sakes, that's why you have your Other computer. You shouldn't be spending that much time with your head in the washing machine, anyway.
This connects, trust me.
Other themes of conversation, and reading, lately, have been intent, and the striving for immortality. It's also been brought to my attention (by me, by way of readings from others without the intent of their effect) that many realms or study are having an... easy time of it, these days. Science is having access to things, it never had before; influxes of massive discoveries, theories being fulfilled, caculations seeming to fall into everyone's laps, and all at once, and, strangely, in a way that, even with the disparate views all being bolstered, Doesn't Cause Argument. Now, i'm not going to knock it. (Portishead& Moloko - [Fun For Me]). I mean, i'm a damned paragmatist, so if it works, it fucking works, but i will say that i hope they realise what they're getting themselves into.
There is, as i said, this idea that it's getting easier, and with that easy, i'm seing this kind of giddy, floating, giggling towards the happy light (answers) that seem to present themselves, and the connections that simply seem to fall Right. Into place. And i would like to make sure that people realise that that's a dangerous place to be, if you didn't-- or don't realise that you did-- drive yourself there. It's a place where the quanta like to play, is what i'm saying, and it's a dangerous game, to simply agree, now, and ask questions later. (Björk - [Play Dead]). I am, again, reminded of the idea of nodes and catalyst points. Areas of history, where everything shifts, and it's nearly invisible, but, without it, everything would be different. It's like the reasons we don't live in a society that flowered from early technological advancements, the integration of magic and technology, and a sense of Victorian propriety. It's why we didn't quite get the AI situation figured out, and why we're going at it the long way round, and why we have dish washers and refridgerators that look like they do, instead of like hands from a wall, or a giant cold Cellar, and part of me screams that those nodal points are every day.
Prodigy - [Fire (Edit)]--- And it's right. Those kinds of shifts can happen any day of the week, in the right place, and time, with the right kind of pressure, and the right people. But there are times when you don't have to push as hard. Eras when the universe hands you a lever, and shows you a crack, and tells you how to make a fulcrum. And it's for everyone. Lines where weaves and webs intersect, to use an image from a book being read. The confluence of potentialities, at certain points in time, is like a tumbled counter, in a Chemist's lab. (The Smiths - [Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want]). There are runnels of acids, bases, volatile compounds, and the chemist doesn't know what went where, but he knows that those two streams are about to intersect with those three streams, and he damned well better Duck, just in case. Duck, and get out a note pad, so he can do it again, later, the way he wants it done.
I do have a point, i swear.
Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [My Tank]--- I would like to humbly submit that, looking at it from a metaphysical, scientific, or spirituo-religious standpoint, right now is a time rife with and ripe For catalysation, and change. I would like to suggest a little pressure and change, in the aspects of life, where we have the most trouble. (Tricky - [The Love Cats (Cure Cover)]). Aim for them, and try to change them. Damn the torpedoes, perhaps. Take the hard things, to us, and integrate them, learn what we were afraid to let them teach us, and so on. Take the stranger discoveries, and see what they have to teach us about our preferred fields. Understand a system of connection and, again, confluence, that allows everything to work together, as it does. Lessons that appeal to us are nice, but every lesson has something to say.
Jack Off Jill - [Working With Meat]--- There was an artice (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/south_east/3313753.stm) talking about the placement of a Buddha, in what is regarded as a somewhat religiously intolerant Neighbourhood, in front of a Business establishment. (Nine Inch Nails - [The Becoming]). ". . . it is not a place for placing a Buddha." I'd say that that was the perfect place for placing a Buddha. Un/Enfold, Encompass. understand, &c. It's about the totality, and the intent of the Action.
Intent, again. I say things about it, a lot, but i believe that it-- along with perception, understanding, and preference-- is a driving forces in the uni/multiverse. Without them, nothing would get done, in my opinion... And without intention, nothing would get done Well. I am... mutatively of the mind that the end justifies the means. If your intention is a betterment, and that can be served quickly by less than desireable means, then, perhaps, those means should be, if nothing else, considered...
And that swivelslides into my political thought, of recent. (Adema - [Giving In]). And i'm not going there, right now, because it's more complex thanmy brain feels like being, at the moment.
And that's all i have to say, about that.
