Written, tonight, at 7.34, while i was waiting for the bus.

People cry foul, when subjects like metaphysics-- the "True Nature" of things-- are discussed. They say that these flights are impractical, holding little sway over the "real world," when a section of truth is Exactly opposite. Metaphysics, spiritual concerns, theoretical physics, mathematics-- all are connected, all are Important. These are concerned with understanding-- ostensibly-- the Base Truths about the way things are. It may be that what we see, &c., with "pure science," is the end of it, but at least other options will have been explored. Until then, no one can claim to "know" that, and anyone who staunchly argues Either way is simply pulling a woolly security blanket up to his or her chin and over her or his eyes.

Hiding from possibility is Easier, but the potential drawbacks should be blatantly obvious. We lose true understanding-- which many don't want, yes-- and we lose the experience of the search. We have only our assumptions, which may or may not be correct, and are Both, in the Bad way, until... *shrug*

We can know, from as complete a search as we can make, in our lifetimes, of the myriad possibilities, that All Things are True, and Nothing is True, or we can not look, and never even try.

Symbols, perceptions, Free Will, determinism, and all other Quantum Quandries are Important, because they help us to Question, and to better understand [the Real World.] Without them, now that we have them, we stick our fingers in our ears, and go "La, La, La!" at that which we have perceptually birthed into the universe. An action which is as unfair to those concepts, perceptions, and possibilities, as it is to ourselves.

. . . . .

To sum up, these things Do show us real concerns about the real world, those who don't see that What We Are, and whether or not anything besides the perceiving mind is real, has profound impacts on whether anything else has any meaning whatsoever, is simply deluding themselves. Hiding from the truth of the situation. (Peter Gabriel - [Darkness]). As i said: It may wind up that the way it is remains unchanged, that it is physics and only physics. But better to make sure, wouldn't you say?

Simply some thoughts, while reading more "GEB: an EGB."

That he is upset that people grab onto and hold onto and believe things the the exclusion of all things other... or worse, accept something as such without even bothering to look at it or other things that stand in opposition or even support of what ever it it that the person has put into thier shopping cart of believe, relyinging on the stupid plus shopper card of apathy to replace the savings and rewarding feeling of the enlighten to pursue all ideas like a crazed spinster with a pair of scissors, a pile of newspapers and $40 to by food for a wedding... Or something like that...

Or something.

Praise Metaphor.

Not, that's what You're saying. While a valid point, not mine. All's i'm saying is that i had a revelation, and that's what it was. Metaphysical concerns ARE important to the real world.

It's like when people say "people search for more, because it's easier to delude themselves and hope," &c. No. It's easier NOT to search, not to look, not to believe in more (either way, mind you, stuanchly one or the other), than it is to Try, and Prove it. That's all i'm saying.

Neil Gaiman wrote "American Gods." Find it. Bast, as in the Cat Goddess, was one of the characters. Check it out.

Reminds me of something I've noticed in myself. I'm not sure if it actually holds any relevance or is jus a tangent of my own, though...
Since I graduated high school, I haven't had to have any math classes. And while I was there, I bitched and moaned, but it wasn't til I graduated that I understood the use of it. Algebra in itself wouldn't be used in everyday life, but the logic and the patterns of thinking are. People shouldn't discard metaphysics and spirituality, or at least the knowledge thereof because they don't see the immediate interest in these things, because it can get them in the habit of thinking in different directions.

Tangential Relevance.

Yes, the patterns of thought Are Useful. Everything has a use. You can use a hammer to open a cd player. Not it's Intended purpose, on one level, but it Works, and it Helps.

The same is true for anything. Everything tells you about the "Real World."
