wolven7Echo And The Bunnymen - [The Killing Moon]--- So, not that i really Mind, per se, but i seem to be the person people come to, these days, when they have a question about "Black Culture." I understand, i think, why this is, but it's still Hilarious. I pay attention to cultural trends, and try to understand motivations behind occurences... Sometimes i simply Can't get it, though. Like the bandanas, and baseball caps, and the jeans below the ass... I simply don't understand.

tkc asked me about a certain word usage. And i Quote:

tkc does the N-word mean something different amongst black people (mostly gangster types it seems)? i've heard it a lot in that type of music, and it perplexes me as a 'white boy'.

Wolven: Well, it's an Instance of "Re-Possesnig a Word," as it were.
Wolven: Other instances can be seen in women taking back the word "Bitch," as a form of empowerment.

Wolven: A similar phenomena is the idea of making an insult at Yourself, before someone else can, as a way of showing that you already know anything bad they could say about you, and, thereby, removing any power they might have.

Wolven: in the case of the N-Word, however, it's more of a "ReDefinition," as well as a re-possestion

My reply, in my best professorial: "Well, you see, it's a product of a racial memory that all dates back to the time when there were such things as 'Stoops.' The Stoops were places to congregate, in front of one's home, and talk, and feel comfortable." Seriously, it's a cultural comfort thing. The ideal of the Stoop is one that has been with people for a while. {By which i mean from about 1920's Harlem.}
And Yes, for those of you who didn't know, i Am of "African-American" descent. Otherwise known as "Black." Heheh. Doesn't have to be a Thing, you know.

(actually the stark truth is that we hate all of you tall folks and are planning on taking over the world by leaving cabinet doors open at exactly the same time all over the country. We'll do this in every country in the world until we have knocked unconcious every tall person there is - I'm not saying what day this will happen tho)
