The Difference Engine.
Aug. 3rd, 2003 03:24 pmWhat draws us-- those of us who AreDrawn-- to the ideals of a Victorian society? (PIG - [Rope]). I can see it as a time of straining restraint, and emerging Thought, and Understanding, but, in it's way, it was as... Fanatical, as the dark ages. Of course. Religion, Science, holding Either of these as pure lord and master of the human animal is rather a bit of a poor choice. Knowledge of forms and shapes, and the things that May Be... I always find these fulfilling... But there's something About the Victorian Era...Something that kind of seductively draws... And i don't fully understand it. The promises of secrets and mysteries, i guess. The subtle insinuation of what the corsets and petticoats hid... The scientific understandings that were, still, of course, tinged with... Faith...
Prodigy - [Breathe]--- Was watching VH1's 200 greatest Pop-Culture Icons, or whatever, and they showed Albert Einstein. Talking about relativity, and all of these people saying how he was their Idol, and so on... But the thing that struck me, the most, was that they played "Machine Head," by Bush, in the background, through the last half of his clip.... And that really hit something home, on a Feeling level. I love that song, and the Lyrics...
As i'm sure you guessed, i started The Difference Engine, today, and NO, i'm not finished with GEB:anEGB. I'm going to read them, at the same time, and see what fucky things it does to my head. So there.
