wolven7Been thinking about this same sex marriage Thing. Been thinking about it a lot, because i can't turn on the news without hearing about it. So i been thinkin', as it were, that people are Morons. Advocates of Same-Sex marriage are forgetting some really important things. Adversaries are being bigotted morons.
Things forgotten: The form of the rite of marriage that these people are so Harping for is a form that finds it's roots in Judeo-Christian-Islamic Marriages. There are many ancient cultures (and some not-so-ancient ones) that recognize the marriages of those of the same sex. Love is love, for these people. Or, masculinity is masculinity, regardless of the Body, depending on what their requirements are. Anyway, something else forgotten is that This, unfortunately, is a country that Runs on Judeo-Christian-Islamic basis. Those are the religions of our leaders, and those we put in power. We have agnostics, and i'm sure even a few atheists... But how far do they get? My point is it's not the Rites that need to be changed and appropriated, but the Culture itself..
Yes, i'm sure some of the Same-Sex Advocates are Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, and, therefore, feel that they Have to be allowed a part of their cultures' Traditional Unions. Problem being, those Traditional Unions are Traditional, and Most speak against same-sex unions. So... what does that tell you? That, perhaps the key goal, here, is making people realise that Love is Love. That the Human Race will continue (like the virus it Really is), no matter if 49% or 51% of the population is wiped out. Hell, more of a reason to perfect cloning.
It's about Total Reform. It's about making people open their Eyes, and realise that maybe it Wasn't god that said that Same-Sex union was wrong. Maybe it was someone who was Uncomfortable with his sexuality, and needed a way to make it Not Happen. Maybe Sodom and Gammorah weren't burned to dust and ash, because they were "fornicating," or having "The Butt-Sex," but because, even if they were Hetero-Sexual, they were Immoral, pillaging bastards, who didn't respect certain things like, perhaps, the word "No." People can be immoral, vile, corrupt, and disgusting, no matter their sexual orientation, and, in fact, in ways that have Nothing to do with Sex.
There is the unspoken, underlying assumption that, if you're Straight, you get clemency. Whatever you do, at home, with your Opposite Sex partner, is fine (as long as you don't Talk about it), and all is right with the world. That, if you're Gay, you're going to be doing horrible sex acts with small animals, and showing the videos and the PTA meetings you will, then, infiltrate, in your feather man-boa, and high-heels, or your flannel woman-shirt and work-boots, Screaming, "We're Here, We're Queer, Get Used To It!" to the high heavens. Exagerrating feminine or masculine qualities, all day, being as "Flamming," or "Butch" as possible. But you know what? Heterosexual indivduals can be Vile and Disgusting, too. Just as Homosexual individuals can be reserved; quiet. "Unassuming." Think about THAT word. And that's not to say that either of the Latter Set of States is the "Atypical," for either group. Every group of Anythings has extremes.
And that's the problem, as i see it: The Extremes. Sure they make for something to giggle at, with the Fundamentalists shouting their Hellfire-- never thinking that they could be building themselves a nice little set of coals-- and the "Flamming Queers" chanting their slogans-- forgetting that, perhaps, Extreme+Demanded Acceptance was meant to equal Irony. Irony enough that people would see the ridiculousness of hating someone for a sexual preference. Believing the Hype, and Faking the Funk. But i digress: Their amusement factors Far aside, they give Each of their respective camps bad names. And bad Public faces.
The press-- the Public Masses-- will Always focus on the worst representative sample. That's why we see ghetto-speaking black people, and trailer-trash white people. Why we see every poor stereotype (Stereotype in general), out there... Because, sadly, we like to tear each other down. We like to watch each other fall. If we are to be down, so must everyone else. Which begs the question: "Why must we be Down, together?" Why can't we build each other Up? Understanding each side, growing to accept what we know, realising that we, ALL of us, may be operating under presumtions and premises that block us, from the ideals we say we hold...
And that's all i really have to say, there...

you made a good point that our culture is predominantly judeo-christian-islamic, and our marriage ideals and traditions stem from that
it seems that yahweh/allah did not approve of same-sex relationships at all
but that doesn't mean that other gods wouldn't...
there are examples of other deities and followers of such that are associated with same-sex relationships, or at least bisexuality
so as long as people don't assume that yahweh is the only form of god that there is, then of course god doesn't condemn people of the same gender who love each other as deeply as anyone else, and neither should we
