Number One: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

Two is graven images, and not bowing before them, "for I. . . am a jealous God. . ."

That says NOTHING about there Not Being other Gods. All that says is that, if you Worship "The Jesus," then it's Them Three First, all others later. Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah, whatever, was, if you'll remember, a member of a Pantheon. He simply provided the Goods, and Took that shit for himself. People clung, cause they had to... The rest is spurious connection. "Oh... this god saved us... He cares for us... He loves us... He must be our Ultimate Creator." Uhm... No? Yeah, No.

There's more, but that's all i feel like going into right now.

In their core tennets, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam allow for other gods. You're simply not supposed to worship them, if you worship Yahweh. Jehovah. Allah. Whatever.

{Addendum: "Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes." Thank you Strixus.

Also, remember, god never even says that these other godsd are the machinations of Satan. And that is So Prime. Easy Way Out. "Satan Did It. It's Bad." No, instead, it is a matter of Faith, and Belief in the god that says it loves you. Da End. ^_^}

Exodus 15: 11
"Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ?
Who is like you-
majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
working wonders?
--The Song of Moses and Miriam

Exodus 18:11 "Now I know that the LORD is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly."

Exodus 20:23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.

Exodus 23:24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

Exodus 23:33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you."

And many many more...

Oh yes... and this one...

Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

Not only are there other gods... He is GOD of those gods. Nice one, YHWH.

This is why the Gnostics had such a hard time believing the old testament god was the same god as the one in the new testament.

I have an interesting point as well....
YHWH is sometimes referred to as "elohim" particularly in genesis...elohim means plural gods
he is also called el, el elyon, el shaddai, eheieh "i am that i am" etc.
el (with his various epithets) was a canaanite god
and the ba'al that YHWH so vehemently hated was el's son, and also a storm god, just like YHWH

It gets more interesting than that, as I understand it, Elohim means literally: "Divinities" in Hebrew, that's right plural. "Then God said, 'And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us'" (Genesis 1.26) Note the plural usage, God sure as hell wasn't talking to himself, and Hebrew didn't have the "royal we" as modern interpreters have often taken this, so there were many Elohim. On top of that, later on in Genesis, the "sons of the Elohim" come down to earth and give birth to human/elohim hybrids. It's hinted that this was why YHVH ended up causing the flood, his careful breeding program went arry when other Elohim started fucking with the carefully laid out plans. (Gen. 6) Noah and his family were pure, therefore they were saved. Pretty freaky when you consider more modern stories about abductions and other strange phenomena and compare. You know, if more christians actually read the bible, instead of just blindly quoting what they learned in sunday school, things might just be different....take that monotheism.

Sorry about the TEV translations, it was the only bible I could find without waking my parents up and going through their stuff.
