Deadsy - [Winners]--- More money, today. Lots more. Picked up this cd, finally... *sigh* Dreams were convoluted and strange. My family doesn't understand a lot of things, about me, still, and my mother, out of No where, talks about Tithing? I simply fell silent. Yeah, respect, and i'll Offer. But i'm not at all comfortable with giving that god 10% of my earnings. Mrr. (Deadsy - [Brand New Love]). Any suggestions?

Haven't heard back from my dad, yet.... Really wish he'd call me back. i've got a lot of shit about which i need to talk, with him. This whole discomfort schism with my and my mother's beliefs, not being the least of them...

I re-itterate: Holy Shit.

I'll be back, Later. Try not to explode, until then.

Later.

suggestion: tithe what you feel is right for you. there's a point, i think you have to define it, where you must say, "okay, look, your religion is not my religion and its wrong to pay lip service to something you dont actually believe in. out of respect and love for you, i'm attending church while i stay in your home." then, if tithing still seems expected, try not percentage rates but something more easily come by, the change you have in your pocket or a dollar every mass. the money is typically for great causes like community outreach programs and feeding the hungry. so its not like its going to waste. and you're a poor college student besides, no one expects you to be able to tithe at 10%. help any??

Helps some, but see the new posts... I've talked, some, with her. And anyway, i'm making Mad fat cash, here, for doing Shite-all. i have $135 dollars in my pocket, right now. For about a day of work. Beside the point, though. I think it may be a bit more settled. :)

Those are some very good points...
adding to that, you should find out exactly where those donations go, and then give according to how much you support and agree with their use
if the donations will mainly go to administrators, or to programs you don't agree with, then you definitely should re-think giving them the money you need more than they do
if your mom is upset with that, then choose a charity you believe in, and which uses donations appropriately, and give to them instead

i agree with the points raised in the above two comments. also i agree - you shouldn't have to give anything to a religion you are not part of. it is up to you if you want to give to charity, i personally find it more rewarding when i have money coming in, to only give to charities i personally feel a connection to like animal welfare, though i buy a lot of things and clothes from charity shops like cancer research and oxfam.

i think the doing of charitable deeds is far more important than how much money one gives, something the churches who expect tithes seem to have forgotten.

every catholic church i've been a part of, for as long as i can remember, has always tried to convince its congregation to volunteer to help out. to work in soup kitchens, to run clothing drives, to go out and do good things for your fellow man. right now at St. Peter Chanel there are at least a hundred different service organizations connected to the church where a person can give their time instead of their money.

that is how it should be, instead of people thinking that if they give 10% of their money they will be allowed into heaven or whatever. which is how it is in the UK. people go to church every sunday, give money and seem to think that is all that is needed. in Oz a lot gets done for charity, usually organised by the churches, but they don't expect tithes. which is the point being made.
