In regards to Any advancements: If you Respect the shit you make, and treat it as you would any other of your Offspring, then, Maybe, It won't rise up and try to destroy you, and all that you hold Dear. People obviously don't listen, ell-enough, to their sci-fi authors. At least not on the moral lessons.
We listened to Clarke, about satelites, and shuttles. We kind of listened to him about Europa, and the whole evolution thing. We listened to Asimov's theories on robotics, and we applied them, well. But did we listen when they warned us to treat the machines well, when they told us to respect shit? No, we didn't listen. Most of us didn't. We powered ahead, making our advancements, thinking, all the while, "It's only Technology/science/etc, it doesn't matter, if we use it up, and toss it away." Yeah. We're masters of our fucking domain, aren't we? I mean, we've done so well with what we've been Given, we obviously don't need to change our approach, in regards to what we create.
So we create things, like nukes, and nanotechnology, and we map genes, and start a science of genetics, and cloning, and all of the other things that go, there-with, and we allow them to get to the point where they could Fuck Us. Not enough safe-guards. And that's only regarding the things without the potential for thought. When it comes to the things that could work of their Own volition, to Hate us (nano, AI, comps, in general), then our best recourse Is true and honest respect. Thinking of them not as Less than ourselves, for having been created, but as equal to ourselves, if/when they choose to be. I mean... Shit... We create our children, as well.
We guide children, and and we teach them, an we let them grow. Well let them know of consequences, and we allow them to become part of our little reindeere games. Otherwise they Crash our parties, and they rebel. Because they Resent us, and our restrictive control... We start giving things the ability to Think, then we need to Realise this. Other wise... Well.
Raise your hand if you want to live an episode of The Outer Limits.
