Kinda like Odin: Just Hanging around....
Apr. 7th, 2003 06:39 pmPoe - [Could Have Gone Mad]--- I've realised something, today: Metaphysics, or the institutionalized study there-of in a college setting, is really an annoying practice. I'm made, again, to choose Either A or B, when both have merits, and the world isn't Really broken down into yes' and no's. (Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [Mustard Gas]). We have many more options, in this life, than simple physicalism, and non-physicalism. Quantum theories, Taoism, Zen Buddhism, and the other Gatelessly Gated Practices notwithstanding, we have a whole depth of experience that shows that we are often "Wrong" about the universe. (Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [The Innsmouth Look]). But those theories and beliefs seemed to work at the time, did they not?
We learn more every day of our Lives, but that does not necessarily Negate the things we learned before. When we learn new facts and things about the universe, world, Whatever, we are changing our perspective. We can call ourselves More Learned, because it's true, but it's just as true as if we were to learn to believe the Earth was Flat. If you learn More, You Learn More. We-- humans living today-- have not experienced the lives and beliefs of our forebearers, therefore we are unable to make Value Judgements. (Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [Battered]). I know, i'm sounding Really relativist, right now, and i have to say that i'm ok with that.
Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [Burrow Your Way to My Heart]--- I think that there are some things that Are Objective, in our realm of experience, as i've said, but i think that those are the things upon which We decide. We are, as a whole, full of a wide range of potentials. (Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - [One-Gilled Girl]). We can know more about the way we See the World. And, yeah, from our vantage, people who thought the Earth was flat were wrong, because We have the understanding of a vaguely spheroid Earth. We can't understand Why they thought it was flat (because it was as far as they could see, or as they had traveled, or what have you), so we really can't call them Wrong. Stupid... Unlearned.. Ok, well maybe we can, but that's kind of closed off, wouldn't you say?
Poe - [Terrible Thought]--- I am, as you all know, all about that acceptance thing, and that learning from and understanding the experiences of others stuff. So, naturally, i'm going to put forth something like this. If you think i'm wrong, here, don't hesitate to tell me. But i want back up that i can't refute with some mutation of "Belief shapes the World, so their beliefs about Flatness and their knowledge of their surroundings caused... &c." Cause i can, given enough time, prove that... i just want people to accept that more than one person, point of view, theory, whatever, can be right. They don't Have to be mutually exclusive if we don't want them to be... Gods i got way the fuck off track..
Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - [The Feeling of Jazz]--- So, what i meant to talk about, here, was the fact that i find it hard to study all of this shite, with these Blockages, in the way. I know, i know, words are the borders with which we comprehend the universe, but Damn... just cause we Place the borders, doesn't mean we can't peak over them, every once in a while... We get so damned comfortable on our sides of the fences. I hate my sinuses, sometimes... Anyway, i really need to buy some books, and do some studying, for this class. Metaphysics... For such an open Subject, there sure are some closed people, in it...

But hey, why do We think what we think? Infinite regression of "Why"...

Date: 2003-04-07 08:36 pm (UTC)And infinite regressions of 'Why?' are how we learn. Remember doing that to your parents? :)
Oh yeah, the title of this made me crack up...That's just wrong.

And i'm not saying the infinite regression of Why is Bad. Simply There.
And yeah, i'm probably going to be tormented and/or chained to Yggdrasil for that one...
