Placebo - [Pure Morning]--- What, in our sense of understanding, would constitute an "Interrupt?" Would that be a complete and total paradigm shift? A new realm of conscious thought? A Renaissance, perhaps? If so, then how many times should we have hit Restart, by now? Who knows... I'm broke. I get paid tomorrow. 20-some odd dollars... I'm displeased. Also, tomorrow, i call Kudzu. I need a new job, and there's no two ways about it.

Rasputina - [Dollhouse]--- I was thinking, today, about the state of what can be called the "Rally Culture." It's sick, but it seems that there are people out there who need to go to rallies, like junkies need to go to crack houses. It doesn't seem to matter What the rally is, as long as it matches vaguely with their Supposed Views. If they believe that they are "Liberals," or "Leftists" then they go to all of the marches supporting things that are thought, by the sheep-like masses, to be associated with those things. (Pain - [Easy Out]). Pro-choice marches; anti-war marches; Communism marches; environmental marches.... Anything. And the same applies to the ones in the Hard Right Wing Crew... And they seem to be even angrier. Pro-Life, Prayer in Schools, Creationism, War, And anti-Anti. Basically. What the hell is going on, people?

Portishead - [Elysium]--- What ever happened to the days of actually having cogent, well-thought debates, and presenting issues? Not this sitting on opposite sides of the street, waving signs and Shouting at the people who disagree with you... What are you, Five? Did you choose peachtree street, because there was already a line through the middle of it, and you didn't have to draw one, yourself? It makes me fucking Sick, you know? Yelling, chanting, rallying.... If it hasn't worked by now, then maybe you should try a different Tactic. It's not the Protesting that gets it Done. It's the Direct Inconvenience that gets it done. Work for Union Rights, and block the entrance to your Shop. That'll actually get something Done, cause they won't make any money, without you. Unless you hold some form of Power over them (the ubiquitous "They," here), then nothing will change, for they have No Reason To Change It.

You don't own the Government, unfortunately, because we don't have a true democracy. We can't Handle a true Democracy, from what i've seen. We want to Bitch and Moan, and hope that *POOF!* it gets magically taken care of. (Iggy Pop - [Lust For Life]). If we had a true democracy, there'd be no one to bitch and moan at, but ourselves. We Can do it, especially in today's technologically centred society. It's about putting the information out there, and having people say What they want, what they need, and then voting on it. It's a long slow process, but, yo know what? People tend to, after a few years of working a certain way, say "Hey... there's something really simple, here, that i didn't see... Shit, we'll do it This way, from now on." And maybe, for once, we'd learn the true meaning of consensus... Money... irrelevant for the purposes of the Whole. If it is for the good of all, then maybe it can be bartered. On a personal level, money still works... Over all, it's about Pragmatism, and a syncretic system of government...

If you don't know the word syncretic, then go look it up. I'm out of here, for now.

All this crapola is made more annoying by the fact that people don't realize that, but for a few particularly brilliant and creative examples, rallies don't do SHIT anymore. They used to be a cause for having riot police and hoses turned on people like they were in a Victorian asylum, now they're bloody fucking encouraged to make people feel like they have a say in things. Now some good old hacktivism MIGHT be worth the effort, and requires a modicum of brainpower to boot...

This, dear, is the post i was waiting for. In the old days, there were Clear Cut things that people were fighting for or against, and they had things they could Do about it. Rights. Easy to do something about that (Or so it seems to us, now, and would if ever the need arose, again). But rallies against War have never worked. Vietnam? *stiffled-scoff* There needs to be Education, and a way to Learn About the System. Without bloody revolution, you can't expect to tear the whole thing down, without working within it, first.

In short: Yep, you got THAT right.

Agreed.

Very much like a comment i made on Kerrath's deadjournal, trying to explain some of the dipshit Causeheads we had to deal with at Horizons, or through Horizons at some of the things we participated in...speaking of...

"true...democracy..."
"consensus..."
AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!Senior Seminar Flashback! Duck and cover, kids, we have to VOTE. Yeah, we "learned" the true meaning of democracy, and ALL about consensus...learned it like a good ripping case of amoiebic dysentery. "What's that creeping, queasy feeling...we've been infected with democracy, and now we must vote. And vote. And vote..."

No one who has actually experienced true democracy could believe that what we have in the US remotely resembles it, and i would venture that no one who knew any better would actually promote such for the American people. Excepting, of course, optimists like you. Maybe. On a Good day.

Well, it IS a good Day. :) I'm willing to believe that, with a few generations of the proper conditioning, the american people['s children] can be made to accept and work within, and Like a True Democracy.

But it'll take a bit of time.

i'm a big copy cat!!!
