You should read Dewey then, he has alot to say along those lines. And who's to say communication is only possible between equals. If you tell a trained dog to sit, and it drops its ass on the floor, you have communicated with it, it has heard your command, processed it, and acted on it...does that make the dog some sort of wonder dog, who is man's intellectual equal?

There are many as would say that that is not true communication. They would say that there is a command, and a reaction. Your stomach does that to you. Would you say that you are communicating with it? Conversely, i could answer that Yes, a dog is man's Equal, and who said anything about intellectual? To be equal, is to be equal in all respects, so, while one may be more or less, in some areas, the whole Sum is still the same.

Or something along those lines.

ah, but in a way, your stomach does communicate with you, it states a need, and you fulfill that need for it. In Fodorian terms that's your private language at work. Well I guess you should define equality better, what constitutes an equal? Existance? Are we all equal because all things capable of communicating are in a sense thinking things and therefore exist, thereby making them all equal? Why wouldn't I be communicating with a dog when I told it to sit? It understood what I told it to do. Do you mean by communication discourse?

The equallity, here, is the equality of perception. Having an equally inclusive, or aligned view of things. Or being equal in the Willingness to align, or understand those views.
