Deadsy - [Flowing Glower]--- But the truth of it is-- if Leibniz was right, anyway-- that we are all surrounded by mirrors, and it's simply a matter of looking, and liking or disliking what you see. Hung out with someone, last night who made me realise that Mirrors and I are extremely connected. He is like me, except he took the paths slightly to the sides of me. Or was forced down them. (Deadsy - [She Likes Big Words]). English Major; caring Teachers, early on; Various other paths, just slightly from centre of mine own. He knows people i know, as was recommended to me, in the same ways in which i was recommended to him: "Really cool black guy. He's just like you. You'll love him."
I've realised that everyone around me, of whom i think as "Just Like Me, Only Different," is a mirror. Big surprise, right? Leibnizians! To Me! All minds are Monads. Monads are self contained Mirrors, without the ability to affect or interact with the other mirrors, around them. (Deadsy - [Cruella]). All they can do, is reflect that which is contained within them, and the changes it enacts upon itself, and its perceived externality. This is a little more extreme than i'm willing to go, personally, but it seemed to get Leibniz through the night, so whatever. The point i'm trying to make, here, is that we see, in others, parts of ourselves. Whether we like or dislike, trust or distrust, love or despise these parts is entirely up to us, and says something about the ways in which we think of ourselves.
Some mirrors are more clear, less distorted, than others.
These mirrors tend to be the most disturbing, and the most attractive and repellent, all at once. We love and hate the deepest recesses of ourselves, right? Some mirrors are distorted in the most pleasurable ways. They are as we like to believe ourselves to be. Powerful, knowledgeable, arrogant (and rightly so), in control. Having the preferences we have, and the ability to fall right in with us, and our contexts. Our friends will like each other, and, if they don't, then they will at least like us/our other, new mirror-self. (Deadsy - [Seagulls (The Macroprosopus)]). Some mirrors are dark, and show us only the horrible parts of ourselves...
These are the parts that we would like to think don't exist, the Obsessive, the compulsive, the Lack of these, if we are to affect them, for attention's sake. The arrogance (or, in this case pretension). The fear of what we are, what we pretend to be, what we are not. These mirrors... We grate against each other, then, and all of our friends say "Why don't you like him/her? You two are just alike!" And that is exactly why. There are pieces, there, that we would rather not have clearly reflected back at us. We would pretend that our faults and our flaws are not that glaring... and they aren't, until We see them, and We are the only ones who are shocked.
Deadsy - [Le Cirque En Rose (Obsolescence)]---So, perhaps, it is time that we gather all of our mirrors together, again, and have a good long look at ourselves, Hm? see our selfishnesses, and our pettinesses, and our weighty potentials, and our triumphs, in as much True light as we can possibly get. Bring the Dark Mirrors, and the Light Mirrors; the Twisted and the Smooth Mirrors; the Mirrors that hold our hearts, and the mirrors that rend them to pieces... (Deadsy - [Tom Sawyer]). If we accept all of our Mirrors, and what we see there, as they pertain to us, then maybe we can accept ourselves, wholly, and only have to look at our Friends as our Mirrors, every so often, and we can view them as the Friends they are, more often.
Attach yourself
like Narcissus at the waters.
Remind yourself
of the spring that never falters.
Carrying within,
a view from outside,
and forever there-planted
keeping friends at your side.
I would like to thank the Corinthian, for the pre-sleep taunting that brought upon this train of thought. And of course i would like to thank all of my Mirror/Friends; May you be my mirror, when i need it, and may i be yours, as well, but above all, may we always be Friends. &c.
I'm out.
