Happy Sunday, Ya'll! Here's a List of things some of my friends are up to. With Links!

BLAM! Ventures has a Kickstarter going to raise money for their upcoming shark-themed illustrated novel, Frenzy. This novel is close to all of their hearts, and I'm pretty sure to many of yours, as well. And the kickstarter is here just in time for Shark Week!

[livejournal.com profile] photogirl630 has a jewelry and crafts storefront up at http://purplehonudesigns.etsy.com/ You should check her out for things that pair well with your island and beach wear, or just generally let you carry the feeling of a warm tropical breeze with you, everywhere you go.

Kirsten's Commissions, Etsy, and Redbubble are here http://unknownbinaries.tumblr.com/commissions, here http://www.etsy.com/shop/ravensmarket, and here http://www.redbubble.com/people/unknownbinaries/shop If you're looking for art that is uncanny, that is weird, that is deeply resonant and emotionally jarring, then look no further!

The folks at Foolish People have been... Well. It's best if you go look for yourself. They've constructed some kind of strange factory and the noises it makees... No, the Sounds... That sense of a deep vibratory disturbance, just on the edge of hearing and knowing... It must be experienced to be believed.

And that's what some of the people for whom I care are currently working on. Why not have a look?

HERE BEGINS A GENERAL INFORMATIONAL POST ABOUT ME.

I'm an adjunct instructor, which means that I am a part time employee of the state of Georgia and a private institution. This means that I have nothing like "steady work." Yes, I Know that this is the life i chose, and honestly I love it.

The problem is that the summer months are the lean times for adjuncts, like some kind of perverse inversion of agrarian and hunter-gatherer society (which is accurate, if you think about it). There are only so many summer classes available, and they tend to go to those with seniority. Which is fair. Ish. But it does mean that, for three months out of the year, barring morally-conflicting beneficial catastrophe (it was weird), I am to rely on the other part-time work I have, be that my almost-full-time retail job, or the editing and consulting work you've seen me discuss, here.

Timing is always strange, with these things. i am often in between checks, tap-dancing on the edge of things owed and things credited.

Sic semper discipuli graduati.

Oh, and this doesn't even consider my student loans, and the fact that I owed taxes, this year.

But this isn't meant as a bitchsession; many people reading this have it as bad as or worse than I. This is all only to explain to you why I'm offering my services as an editor and a consultant even though I literally have three other jobs. I thought you might be wondering.

My current editing rates start at about US$2/ms page, which is somewhere between one-third and one-Tenth current industry standard. Because that's what desperation looks like. Research and Consultation fees are negotiable while in discussion of the project. I won't even charge you for the discussion time!

Know that these are Desperate Times Prices™. When things are more flush, these prices Will go up.

You know how I feel about the need for money, but here we all are. Still in a predatory capitalist society, requiring money for even the most basic necessities and amenities.

So why not exchange payment for goods and services, for a while longer, yet, and we can all do a little bit better, moving forward. Whaddaya say?

Those prices make me wish I had something in need of editing.

I wasn't wondering why you might need money despite three other jobs. This economy is terrible, and the adjunct system is pretty exploitative. If you didn't have a retail job on top of your two adjunct jobs, you'd probably be yet another adjunct on food stamps. It's a terrible system.
