Venetian Snares& Hecate - [Intense Demonic Attacks (Initiate Devil's Answer Remix)]--- Some students want to be spoon-fed their answers. One evaluation complained about my only writing down "key words." and every single one has had at least one instance of "needs more powerpoint presentations." It's called "Reading Your Fucking Books," children. You have three of them, for a reason.

- Kids these days want More tests. I don't think they'll like where that leads, in all honesty. Making more tests isn't going to make me make easier tests. They're just going to be more detailed, intricate questions, covering less material.

Someone said I "talked the entire hour and 15 minutes," and one kid said I talked in a Monotone? (Poe - [Hey Pretty]). First of all, I'm sorry, What? It's hrd NOT to talk the whole time, when, after I ask you a question, any question at all, there is DEAFENING SILENCE. Secondly, Do you know what that word means? Do your ears function? I yell, shout, emphasize, gesticulate. Monotone is not a word that applies.

Warren Zevon - [Veracruz]--- Here, have an Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmc2B6kIgsA (That's weird. I just noticed that I sound a little like Al Madrigal, sometimes. Or, rather, he sounds like me.)

I mean what the shit?

ANywho. My classes did make some really good points, which I'll be implementing into my future classes. So There we go.

Personally I think you should show up with a laser pointer and a pointing stick. Then slap the board and yell: "Hey you primitive screw heads, this is my boom stick!" Which should get their attention. Then explain to them the expectations of the class. If they dont read they dont get participation points because they do not know the material. One of my friends resorted to pop quizzes because her class wasnt doing the reading.

When students complain the class requires work, then apparently they thought college was just like high school. Also make it a point to tell them you will not spoon feed them the answers, they are here to learn, not to regurgitate the info.

Especially since philosophy is a bit of an applied idea, you dont get the concept just by reading, you have to be able to apply it. Other wise it doesnt make any sense.

If you were monotone during lecture Id have to wonder if you sent a robot or something in your stead. Do you have a robot clone, if you do I want one.

I've noticed this about a lot of students, myself. There's a third party website where students review teachers at the last college I was enrolled in; reading many of the reviews it just seemed like the students were incredibly lazy.

It was honestly almost like reading comments under a YouTube video; some comments even bordered on being racist towards foreign-born teachers.

Maybe I just need to show up to your class one day, and start slapping kids in the back of the head.

hmm maybe I ought to do that too, we could show up together and actually make the class look dumb because we did the reading and showed the initiative to actually participate in the class.

Seriously I think that the amount of self entitled retards that are in the world today is getting worse and worse. If a student thinks that they shouldnt have to do work, then there is going to be an issue. You ought to ask other teachers in your department about that. Are there just as many kids who dont want to do work. I still think you should start using pop quizzes and use their scores to determine participation grades. That will get some of them to shape up and others to drop the class.

I had one student evaluation where one student said "should use more powerpoint" and another said "should use less powerpoint."

My impression with student evaluations is thus that you are never going to make everybody happy.

What do you think were the good points that they made? And did you get any funny-good comments? I had one once that said "she seems to be very skilled in the Dark Arts." :D

Can't think of any off the top, but ikll check. Good points included notes on the timing of assignments, and the books we used.
