Dragon*Con: A Love Letter
Sep. 4th, 2006 03:36 pmDear Dragon*Con:
The Oddz - [Sellout - "The Stupidest Song On The Radio" (Album Version)]--- Goodbye Dragon*Con. We've had some great times, and you were always there for me, when
mech_angel and I needed you. Whether it was with randomly found friends in the halls, deliberately planned friends in rooms and halls, the walkings and talkings of
ego_likeness, spending lots of time with the illustrious
kittenspeaks, bothering the inimitable Ms.
jenniebreeden, wandering around with
karishi, or getting to talk to Summer Glau about The 4400, and how much she loves that cast, and working with Jeffery Combs, you were there.
The Oddz - [Girlfriend (Album Version)]--- If it wasn't making four-point-five GALLONS of Cthulade, it was seeing Ben, Rhia, and John Michael, or talking with Donna about various Things, and telling people about how much Ego Likeness rocks, or winning a signed Venture Bros. Poster from Widgett, at the Need Coffee Gonzo Movie Film Festival for being the only one willing to try for my best Phantom Limb impression. (The Oddz - [Medicated Girls Brigade (Guitar/Bass/Drums Demo)]). Or maybe it was seeing a Venture Bros. Episode that won't air for another three months, that did it, and getting Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick to sign the Cthulade bottle... That certainly didn't hurt. But It may have been when Michelle Belanger gave me her cell phone number... I don't know. I'm not a doctor.
In the end, though, I think it was the three hours and forty-five minutes of Panel Without A Purpose, during which we made a tenative truce with Cobra (a rivalry, long-standing; almost as long as we've been doing this panel [a few hours younger]), because, in the end, theyt bring people in, they talk, they make us laugh, and they are pretty good guys, whebn they're not attention whoring it up. ;) (The Oddz - [Girlfriend (Acoustic Version)]). Yes, in fact a panel wherein only three of the original members were in attendance, but it all turned out okay, because we were all really drunk, or tired, or riding other people's same. Good times.
And then there was
raoin, Patrick,
ladymerrydeath,
aesthetic,
raidingparty,
wacko1138 and his generous donation to the Panel,
sean_mcgyvern,
atlqueenrai, Ben, Jordan, Pete the Trivia Guy, and all the rest...
There's no way for me to pick out a single thread-- running into Tory Belleci in the elevator was pretty awesome, though-- so, instead, I'll just have to say that it was a matter of riding the Zeitgeist. (The Oddz - [Sellout (Acoustic Version)]). You were awesome, in many ways.
But you're over, now. We're over, now. You threw up everywhere, and, because of you, I reek of alcohol, geek sweat, and many, many cheap cigarettes. I can't live like this. Your lifestyle kills me, a little, inside, and don't think I don't love you for it.. If I didn't, I wouldn't have been there, now would I? No, everyone has a self-destructive streak... But that streak, deep down, is all you are. Well. That, and a four day partytastic geekgasm, comprising so many people in such a small space as to regularly be called into question by the fire marshall.
The Oddz - [Sellout (Radio Edit)]--- But all of that is over now. We're done. Through. Fini. Get the hell out, and don't come back. You don't have to go home but you've got to get the hell outta here.
I'll see you in 12 months.
Corrosive Love and Barbed-Wire Kisses,
Damien
[Holy Fuck, you people have to be Shitting me! I only have to go back Fifty entries, to get to where I left off?! Awesome.
