This occasion is too great not to take advantage of it, WOLVEN. You have brought together all the elements that will allow you to explain yourself, your methods and your points of view. The people you work with everyday will be receptive to all your great ideas. Don't worry about being nervous, those little shakes in your voice or in your hands will only give you more credibility...
I believe that it is entirely possible to be a wonderful thinker, to have expansive ideas, which hang together well, and explain things about the world, and be proven to be very mistaken, later down the line. Though I need to read more of his work, I believe this to be true of Naom Chomsky. Language is not immutable, not strictly relegated to one species, or another. If we live, if we have consciousness, and the ability to communicate, then we have the ability to understand.
Fiona Apple - [Never Is a Promise]--- I was taking a piss, and thinking about coding languages, because Al was playing one of the games, on Homestar Runner. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Damien, you were pissing. Why were you thinking of anything else, but that? You might as well have been whistling." But i think that to let the thoughts enter and leave as they please, giving them appropriate notice, is more worthy than restricting yourself. Anyway, I was thinking about coding, and the fact that there are people, in this world, who can look at a line of computer code-- which is a language created to interact with machine code, which is, itself, a language invented to get electircal currents, and made things to do what we want them to do-- and they can understand it. They can manipulate and change syntax, update grammar and parse, and create something, design something, show other things. Symbols given meaning, and meaning imbued and inherent in the act of using symbols.
Warren Zevon - [The French Inhaler (Live)]--- This is not simply translating. This is communication and understanding. Binary, Hexidecimal, Machine, Typographical Number Theory-- these are languages, with their own meanings, and nuances, pieces of nomenclature, inaccesable to anyone who hasn't lived in that neighbourhood. You can explain, but something will get lost in translation, yes... But you will get it. It might not be funny that time, but, with new knowledge, new experiences, being there, seeing what they mean, living it, you gain the ability to laugh with them, next time.
Audioslave - [The Worm]--- There is something more to language than being human, or dolphin, or computer, or self-aware sweeping construct, or swirling mass of tentacles, at the ground of being. There is, as I said, the very fact of consciousness, and the perspicacity of communication. In knowing how something communicates, and living as close to that, as we can, for our time of study, we may learn something of why they communicate in that way. What about their lifestyle and nature breeds that form of interaction and play.
Static-X - [Transmission]--- There is something to be said for becoming "Transhuman." To being more than the barriers that we have inherited. Nature wants us to grow and change. Nature and Technology are not enemies, and their works together, though not well known, are astounding. Marvels of adaptaion. (Static-X - [Control It]). What is wrong with striving to attain that state? I don't know that there is anything we cannot handle, except, unfortunately ourselves. With all inherent contradictions, and fallacies, in place, there.
I need to go to bed. Searching for houses, tomorrow. Also graduation things.
Good night, all.
Dream Well
