Ugh, Fringe. Just... UGH.

wolven7Don't read this rant if you haven't seen past S2 of Fringe and don't want some things spoiled for you.
That being said, I swear to god, I would have preferred the universes had merged into some kind of conglomerate of both universes, especially if it meant something better for the show than this bullshit. I feel like I'm gonna have to rewatch BladeRunner, Primer, Source Code and ALL of Lain to get the taste of this season out of my brain.
And if he ends Fringe via some kind of time travel jump back to "undo the wrongs of the past," or some other "And It Was All A Dream" fuckery, I may have to swear off Abrahms' television. Well. Unless that dream was Walter's bad trip, and he wakes up covered in Strawberry milkshake and Redvines, with Astrid shaking him, and he just says, "And that, my dear Astro, is why you don't mix mescaline, LSD, and psilocybin."
Honestly, it's as if every time they're about to do something ground-breakingly conceptual, they get gun-shy & cringe away from the heady stuff. Well guess what, motherfuckers! It's your last goddamn season! This is the point at which you should've pulled out all the stops and toccata-and-fugued this bitch into the ground! But no. Instead we get this weak-tea, hackneyed "Future-Wars!" bullshit, and then, AND THEN! we veer off into last night's "now it's personal" idiocy?!
I know five people who could've written the last fifteen episodes of Fringe better in their fucking sleep. More coherent, more emotionally effective, and indicative of a season arc that makes Sense. One where maybe we explore the implications of merged mirror universes. Where we investigate the nature of identity and selfhood. A story where the love that allows Peter back isn't a nebulous Universal! Force! but rather the alteration/evolution/corruption of An Observer such that he now cares enough about This One Person to allow for a loophole (a singular device, out of place in time). An occurrence for which we have precedent, in show.
In this version of events, you would still get to carp on about the Power Of Love, but you'd do it in a way that made the love in question both more personal and possessed off farther reaching implications, rather than inexplicably making the show into "Fringe: The Story Of The Boy Who Was Loved More Than Anyone Else Has Ever Been Loved And Thus Was Re-Written Back Into Time."
