In the third case of "funny timing coming from [livejournal.com profile] wolven in less than two weeks, I also just read something in Newsweek about the compound problems with the assumptions around working mothers and the public female image. Lessee what I can remember...
- The impossibility of perfection. (Especially with a limited number of hours in the day and irreconcilable expectations.)
- Independence and isolation. Several other cultures value large social circles with work-sharing structures.
- Communication and leadership style differences between men and women.
- When male partners are present, they don't always do an equal share of the housework, even when both partners are employed. And the male partners also trend towards discrete tasks that aren't bound by time; e.g. repairs (not always urgent) vs. food preparation (has to happen almost every day).
