Terminology: Magic and Nanotech
Jul. 18th, 2012 01:39 pmUse Accurate Terms. Yes, there will be some people who don't properly understand them, or who intentionally misconstrue them, and there will be baggage and weight that comes with them, but Use Them.
When you explain the terms, talk around them. Talk about some aspect of the thing which the listener understands, and slowly, softly, introduce new aspects, new angles, new perspectives.
As you incorporate ideas, you'll widen the scope of discussion. Try to save that for later, and get the listener to recognise your term, your concept, for what it is, what it does, and what it means.
Bring the meaning and intent to the fore, then drag the proper terms along with them. Resonance borne from conceptual underdstanding will almost always trump resonance from mere term encounters, but you may have to firmly but gently guide the attention away from the term in order to do it.
Time to go to work.
