The "S" Stands for Space
Jun. 17th, 2012 10:35 pmThere is exactly One place in Aliens, where I disagree with the behaviour of Ellen Ripley, and that is when she breaks the agreement with the Queen, and burns the nest.
I know it's supposed to read as a visceral moment-- she's finally conquering the things which have haunted her for years and years, blah blah blah, WHATEVER-- but the fact of the matter is, Ripley broke the deal.
And for what? If she had honoured the deal, escaped, and gone out to the ship, they would have been able to watch from space as the entire hive burned. The freaking colony is about to go nuclear, Ellen! Let that shit go!
Even if you contend that she was just trying to kill the facehugger that opened, as they left, that's fine: Kill THAT One. Don't burn down the whole hive!
AND, Ellen, because of your inability to keep it in your pants, now you once again, for the second time in what must seem to you like three months, have mere seconds to flee from a city-sized nuclear explosion!
However, this is my only problem with anything Ellen Ripley ever does. Ever.

[Edit: ... but they both have a thing on the side with Samus Aran.]
