Authorial Intent and In-/Evocation.

wolven7Beastie Boys - [Dr. Lee, PhD]--- Magic Question: Does the Content of a particular evocative tool matter A) more than, B) less than, or C) as much as the Symbolic Associations the person has with it?
Or, alternately, is it situationally variable? If so, then by what criteria do you make the determination?
Synascape - Travel--- I ask this, because I often like to use songs and music to evoke certain mindsets, to make it easier to do certain tasks--to bring about certain effects-- and the fact is, sometimes I'm struck more clearly by the ways in which the content of a piece differs from my symbolic connections with that piece. Other times, however, I find the resonance too strong to ignore, regardless of content.
So I guess that means that, for me, the relationship is variable, based on the weight of attention (i'm really fond of that phrase/conceptual context, lately).
I'd like to hear the thoughts and experiences of others, about this, though.
