The Vortex: 20 Years of Kick-Awesome
Apr. 18th, 2012 07:09 pmI started going to the Vortex in 2002/2003, and I've been going ever since.
Last night was the 20th Anniversary Party for the Vortex, and it. Was. AMAZING. With a huge crowd, great snacks (although I thought there'd be dinner food; more on that later), and free drinks, the whole night was completely spectacular.
We'd been told by our friend Jennie, who's been our server for like... Three years now... That's weird... that we were to be invited to the party, and we were kind of pleasantly astounded. So we almost all went: Me,
unknownbinaries,
lord_of_smoking, Michelle, Srdjan, Josh, Rebekah, and Lauren. For some reason
beard didn't show, but other than that it was our whole Regular Trivia Crew.
The drinks were good, the company was great, everyone had an utterly fantastic time. Also I met Margaret Cho. So that was nice.
There was a Red Carpet, lots of photographers. and... just... Yes. They wanted to make everyone they invited feel like a fucking rockstar, and you know what? They succeeded. Big time.
The thing that has nto changed, in all of my years at the Vortex, is that they treat the people they love like family. We protect each other, we watch out ofor each other, and, in the immortal words of Andrew W.K., "when it's time to party, we will party Hard."
When these people like you, they make you family, and when you're family, they love you.
And I fucking love them.
After party, we needed food, so we tried to go to the Decatur Diner, but they were closed. So we hit up a WaHo, instead, and delicious dinner was utterly delicious. Unfortunately Michelle, Srdjan, and Josh were too tired to continue, before this, and made their way home.
A thoroughly grand evening, and everyone left with a tale to tell. What more could we ask for?
