I just had the realisation that I believe I am beginning to feel about the phrase "New Aesthetic" the way my thesis committee felt about the word "Magic."
What I mean is that I have this desire to say that the phrase is doing too much of the heavy lifting, without anyone Unpacking Their Terminology. And I think that's what bothers me the most, about all of this: The People who should best be able to unpack all this seem too dazzled by themselves to do so.
All of which is to say that, while I'm not averse to the Ideas Delineated within the term, we need to spend more time Delineating those Ideas.
