A Hard Left Turn
Apr. 9th, 2012 03:01 amNick Cave & the Bad Seeds - There She Goes, My Beautiful World--- I keep using the phrase "A Hard Left Turn, Of My Own Choosing" in regards to drastic change, in my life, but I don't think I've ever laid out precisely what that means, for me.
A hard left turn is the drastic change from the every day that makes you have to fundamentally reorient what you're doing, and how. It's a moment, an event, an experience which makes you have to completely reconsider what you believe and what you think and what you feel.
It's a radically different context. It's something unlike anything you've had before.
Some traditions call it "shakubuku."
Grinderman - [Evil]--- "It's a swift, spiritual kick to the head that alters your reality forever."
To say that I want it to be of my own choosing is to say that I want to determine the mechanism of this moment. Yes I realise that this is akin to asking to be allowed to choose the moment and means by which you will become enlightened, but it's not quite that. I want... One thing. One intense moment of difference, in this sea of difference, the parameters of which i get to set.
The Builders and the Butchers - It Came from the Sea--- I want to go to a psych lab and do a psilocybin study. I want to go out into the woods with a few people and have an indescribably good weekend. i want to have one free weekend, where everything else is done, and nothing else needs to happen, where I can enact... anything.
I want a party. A Real. Fucking. Party.
Just one thing, just one moment of change of my choice.
Castle - [No Sleep]--- What's your hard left turn? What's the radical realignment of perspective you Want, rather than the ones the universe has given you?
