Will you do this for me?
Mar. 13th, 2012 02:27 amWill you do one thing, for me? Well, several things, really, but it's all in the service of one thing, you know?
Will you go get the mirror? No, the smaller one--no, not the pocket one, the small-but-not-too-small one-- yeah, that one; will you bring it here?
Will you get your favourite wine or liquor or fruit or animal blood?
Will you turn out all the lights?
Will you set the mirror up or on the ground in front of you, in the middle of an open space?
Will you light some candles-- any kind-- on either side of you?
Will you draw a spiral from the centre between you and the mirror, out surrounding the two?
Will you sit in the spiral, staring at your own face in the mirror, until it starts to blur?
Will you take your favourite wine, or liquor, or fruit, or animal blood, and draw on the blur that used to be your face?
Will you draw a new face there?
Will you talk to that face, in that spiral, in that room, until those candles burn down and out?
Will you learn things from that face?
Will you teach things to that face?
Will you let that face out and through that spiral, into the world?
Will you clean up the mess you've made, and feel weightless, and clean, and powerful, and whole?
Will you?

Date: 2012-03-17 07:14 am (UTC)The blackness helps me remove myself mentally from my surroundings. It helps me forget where I am and removes distractions. The water pelting my body in irregular patterns from a shower allows me to detach myself from the physical world. Water has always been very important to my meditations. I have attributed this to my affinity to water and that I am a water sign (scorpio), though my studies have led me to believe that it may be more fundamental than that. Water and darkness are the beginnings of things - they represent primal beginnings and the birthplace of life.
I often allow my mind to wander during these times. I very rarely direct my meditations during this ritual, though I find myself performing it most often when I am wrestling with important personal issues. As I focus on nothing and allow my mind to wander, I find that I will be drawn to the source of my anxiety. Most recently, it has been the concept that I have the power to forgive myself.
I find that in that darkness, detached from my physical body and surroundings, my concept of self is both realized and made malleable. This is an important ritual that I've utilized since my teenage years to shape who I want to become. It is my time to form myself and make decisions on the type of person I want to be. If I identify a flaw that I want to begin removing, or a wound that I need to tend to, this is my venue for it.
