Republican Candidates on Transhumanism
Jan. 26th, 2012 12:43 pmBaby Moses, Human–Jellyfish Hybrids, and Transhumanism: The GOP Candidates Weigh In
Time for another round of "I know these are buzzwords that I'm supposed to say, so here let me use them in a completely ill-informed-but-definitive manner." I hate these rounds.
God damn it, at least READ the current literature, before spouting off random bullshit about which you know nothing, about which your advisors know nothing, about which the majority of the voting public knows not at all a goddamned thing.
If you're going to talk about Eden and context of human achievement via a Lapsarian mechanism, why not bring us through the Alchemical Process, first? Through Naturphilosophie? Pain Western Esotericism as the precursor to the cybernetics movement and get you some of that crucial Golden Dawn demographic. Because when you paint that picture, there are some of us who know the ground you're stomping all over, and we are Not Best Pleased.
"Think of the Children?" REALLY, Santorum?! Can you GET any more fear-mongering, any more hate mongering than you already are?
I just... GAH! I don't even understand why anyone gets to talk to large groups of people about this shit without doing some research into it, above and beyond a Headline News-esque blurb of the situation. You want morals and reasons based on values? There are people who do that, for Transhumanist ideas, in a professional capacity. They're called ETHICISTS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY. For FUCK'S SAKE!

Date: 2012-01-27 01:55 am (UTC)No, they don't. They want blunt-instrument, emotive, broad-spectrum manipulation tactics. That almost *precludes* reason, entirely, but it has the desired outcome.
