Constructions of Consciousness
Sep. 14th, 2011 01:56 pmEvery relationship you make is a psychic machine with both perceptible and invisible effects. Every conversation you have is a living organism and that organism grows & finds itself w/ your help & attention. The interlocking intersticies of interaction are living constructs as is every conscious organism.
Fuck it. It's a Blank-Badge-on-a-White-T-Shirt kind of day.
Consider the music that you play, either in your job-- if, like me, you have a job where you can play the music you want and others have to hear it-- or in your car, when your windows are down, or, on headphones but so loud that others can hear what you hear. What are you saying with your music? What are you saying through the mechanism of interaction by which you choose to force this aural intrusion upon the ears of others? What does it mean, to you, to them, to passers-by, to create not only the nature of this space in which you'll interact, not only the terrain, but to define, in your way, the limits of the space? Do you provide them the materials to generously generate a response, or is the space one of active antagonism?
Is the space built of ropes and pillows, or spikes and fire? Do we connect and comfort, or do we put each other on edge, and challenge, dare someone to make it through?
And do we desire the comfort, or do we accept the challenge? It can, of course, always be both, but the question at hand is "What are the natures of the shared psychic spaces we construct?" More importantly, what do we hope and work toward their natures being?
Music, body language, word choice, tone of voice, mental state, external venue... All of these things have direct, observable impact on the ways in which we are able to act with one another.
Give the tools you'd like to be given, but also pay very close attention to the types of tools your construction partern(s)[*] will be best suited to use.
The only way to have a hope of building spaces that will propigate the effects you desire is to have an attentive mind to the whole of the endeavor. Yes?
Aim to build a planet-sized living robot out of the interconnections of the minds/souls/deeds of those you love. That way, if you fail, you'll still build a city-sized living robot out of the interconnections of the minds/souls/deeds of those you love.
Conscious lives and deeds are the Hellraiser Puzzle Box: Every combination, and formulation brings forth something wondrous, terrible, fantastic.
We just have to remember how to turn the corners.
