Trivia: Some people are fucking horrible.

Met the real live Uncle Ruckus, tonight, outside of the L5P Vortex. Black guy, ranting about how black people were "naturally stupid," and he actually said the words "Slavery is the best thing that ever happened to black people." I would have thought "crazy homeless guy," but he pulled out a wad of cash to give to some homeless lady, who was trying to tell him that god made everyone equal. He told her, "If you were black I wouldn't give this to you."

I shit you not he was completely serious.

In better news: First place at Trivia, tonight. So there's that.

Been a lot of staff meetings (long overdue) and weird personal issues (people taking issue with me, not me with them), at work. I am still working toward that really awesome (now-belated) birthday present of a teaching position.

That'd be swell.

I understand it's not uncommon for people who feel victimized for having certain characteristics will grow to hate those characteristics and, by extension, anyone who shares them. You see this a lot with closeted homosexuals who hate gay people, or women who hate women, or men who hate men.

If I had to guess, this individual has been subjected to a great deal of racism—probably when he was only a child—and he has learned to identify with those he feels most threatened by as a kind of defense mechanism. I feel a bit sorry for him, really; it's as if his spirit were broken and he had to grow a new one.

True. But that doesn't mean that, somewhere in there, he didn't have the opportunity to see better. He was saying things like black people were naturally stupid, and born to get diseases and die.

Now maybe someone forced this on him, via abuse. That's tragic, if it's the case, but it's not acceptable. Especially not to be arguing at random passerby on the street at 10pm on a Tuesday.

Understood and agreed. Being a victim of abuse does not grant you excuse to abuse others.
