wolven7: (The Very Devil)

Personal Work (Input): After I'm done reading [livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast's The Ammonite Violin & Others, I'm going to take a fiction break, and Goddamn Finish Reading Michael S. Schneider's A Beginner's Guide To Constructing the Universe, God DAMN it. In fact, I'm taking it with me, today, to get started.

After that, I'm going to subprocess (Throughput) some things, make some notes, maybe (Output) do some art, and then (Output) get started on this story I've had stewing in my head, since I heard "Don't Fear The Reaper," the other day.

Conference Planning and Consulting (Output): I've sent out conference notes to people who needed them. I've sent out thanks, for those who deserved them (people who really stepped up at the last minute and helped us out with some things). And I've made some overtures as to meetings and requests for advice in certain areas. Now all that's left is to wait, and see who responds to what, and how.

Network Maintenance: To that end, and on a personal level, I really feel like there's a communication phase that's winding down, right now. People are making connections, but not really following through on them. Their mode of communication is truncated due to certain... limitations of form? For instance, the primary mode of multivalent communication on LinkedIn appears to be either the Group Posting, or the Recommendation, but only one of those is a living conversation, while the latter is a call-and-response formula. It doesn't engender an actual communicative relationship between the parties involved, and so their interaction remains based in "How I Knew Your Work," not "How You've Grown Through Your Work, And What You Know how To Do, Now." That makes me very uncomfortable.

I am not who I was when I worked with you (or went to school with you, or dated you), but the skill and quality of my work (or the care and compassion of our relationship), then, have allowed me to become who I am today. I think the latter is far more important than the former, and we only get to know that, through continued conversation.

So. How have you been?
