William Gibson: Zero History

unknownbinaries for the first time. It was a brief meeting, during the course of a book signing, but it was nice, and he remembered me from Twitter. In fact, during the Q&A-- which was after the reading of a chapter which contained no less than four Twitter references, but before the signing-- I asked him: "So, you've obviously taken to Twitter, pretty readily, and you've pretty handily integrated it into your work, so, I have to wonder, how many people, when they introduce themselves to you, for the first time, do so with reference to their Twitter name?"
His answer? "I'd have to say, about... 4%. And, as often as not, I'll recognise their handle and I'll say, 'Oh, you're as lovely as your avatar!'"
And everyone laughed, because William Gibson is very witty ^_^
When I brought up the three books for him to sign (far fewer than an hockey bag!), I said, "Glad to be one of the 4%: I'm Wolven, on Twitter." We chatted, and I gave him the option of signing the copy of Zero History to either "Damien & Kirsten" or "Wolven & UnknownBinaries." He went with the latter, saying it was easier to process without an error.
A pretty damn good night, all the way around.
