Grosse Pointe Blank
Aug. 7th, 2010 11:20 amI've realised that I love this movie, so much, because it details a visceral understanding of distance and personal change. It's something I've struggled with, and it's still not always perfectly clear to me, but this movie mirrors what I tend to encounter, when I find people from my past, or when they find me
We are not who we were, 10 years ago, and if those we love weren't there to see it, then, to them, we are liars. It is a moment of frission from what they think they know-- what we think we know-- to what is actually the case.
Also, the more I watch this film (And no, I can no longer give you a number of how many times I've watched it; I used to turn this on to go to bed, at night), the more I wonder how much of it was ad-libbed. So many awkward, real interactions; it's hard to direct for that kind of thing.
