Okay, the syntax on this one's a little weird, but let's see what we can do.

"Human subjects in scientific..." what, is the question. Notation? Is that like (Altruism + Reciprocity)x10^23?

As to whether ethics always pertains, I would have to say "yes." In every decision we make, we most likely consider the ramifications of others, or we pointedly do not. There are very few truly amoral individuals, to whom the question of moral and/or ethical goodness badness simply does not occur. Also, in every situation, I believe that the ethical rammifications of a things Should be considered. (BOA - [Duvet]). What does it mean to me, to impact the lives of others, in the way that this action/choice will? What does it mean to others that it means this, to me? These are important questions, because we live in a world with other people, and their reactions and feelings directly impact our own. We ignore the consideration of them-- in the most literal sense-- at our own peril.

We are very unlikely to be completely self-sustained, and so, yes, ethics pertains.

"few" is a subjective term, I'd suppose. It's estimated that up to 4% of the population are sociopaths - oh I'm sorry we aren't supposed to use that term anymore - err up to 4% of the population are people with antisocial personality disorder.

Human population, as a whole? That's a fairly high estimate. But at least they can fake it.

yeah, whole population; sociopathy knows absolutely no socio-economic-cultural boundaries. Judging by my own experience, I'd say just under 5% sounds about right; one out of every 25 people I've known could be classified as sociopaths easily. They do come in different strengths too. They aren't all psychotic, criminal or cruel.
