Sometimes I really wonder if I've built a life & assembled a family of people of varying sociopathic intensity, but which is occasionally interspersed with "normal," functional people, who are mildly horrified, All The Time.

I think everyone has to have a bit of ability to detach, or we'd be hopelessly entwined, empathically and sympathetically, as a species. But I believe the degree of worrisome lies in how well we understand this as individuals, and recognise it when it's happening.
