On Healthcare:
Sep. 20th, 2009 04:49 pmSo, it seems that, for the "Grand Old Party," Everything Democrats propose is a gateway to "Government Run Healthcare." If so, I am forced to ask them, what, Aside from the Status Quo, is acceptable?
I also have a pertinent Question for Democrats, and I'd really like a thoughtful answer: If people can't afford health insurance, how are they supposed to afford to pay a fine for not having health insurance? Because, you see, for some, it's not that they don't think they Need it, because they're "Young Invincibles," it's that they CAN'T FUCKING AFFORD IT, because they're Too Poor.
If the proposed plan goes through, in the only form I've seen discussed, Democrats are, essentially, FINING SOMEONE FOR BEING POOR.
As always, open to discussion, willing to hear clarification on any points, etc.

Date: 2009-09-20 10:41 pm (UTC)~Tort reform. One of the biggest causes of health care cost increases is doecotrs ordering unneccessary and expensive testing because they're shaking in their scrubs over a malpractice suit. banging my head on a door and getting a headache isn't cause for an MRI.
~ Expand the treatment authority of nurse practitioners. I don't need a doctor to do a blood draw, give me a flu shot, or (So on down the line...)
~ get rid of the dumbass state-imposed insurance mandates and/or let individuals but health insurance from different states. If I'm happy with the idea of going bald, I shouldn't have to pay premiums for toupees (mandated in Florida). If I don't drink, why should I pay premiums for alcoholism rehabilitation? (Mandated in several states)

Date: 2009-09-21 02:04 am (UTC)Why is the problem not that her physician was incompetent but that she feels like she should be compensated for inexplicably having to shit in a bag for the rest of her life?
Because juries are regarding such a state of being as being cause to award a lottery jackpot. Trial lawyers take home a nice cut, the insurance companies raise their premiums, and doctor services are now more expensive for everybody.
Why should I see doctors even less of the time?
Procedure X is a routine procedure. Any competant nurse can perform Procedure X, but current regulations can say only a doctor is allowed to perform Procedure X. Nurse less expensive than doctor. Expand treatment authority so that a nurse can perform Procedure X, and savings come every time a nurse performs Procedure X instead of a doctor.
Now if you want a doctor to perform procedure X, then pony up and pay for it. In America, that's what we do when we want better stuff. If you want better seafood, go to Red Lobster instead of Captain D's and pay the difference.
For those of us who want coverage that actually, I don't know, covers something,
Personally I'd read the policy before I sign it to see what it covers, but that's the kind of thing that's normally done and taken for granted.
I can't even get sufficient coverage as it is, so how is a (presumably, but not likely authentically) cheaper policy that's even less sufficient actually better in any way?
Because insurers now operating in these states are mandated to cover all of these in every policy they sell, regardless of whether or not they have any chance in hell of being used. This raises their costs of doing buisiness, which raises costs for everybody.
It's not a question of sufficiency. It's a question of not paying for what you'll never need. A sterile bachelor for life having maternity coverage mandated by the state is fucking stupid.

Date: 2009-09-21 02:27 pm (UTC)I'm sorry, I was under the impression you actually cared.
No, I don't. Not when I have to explain basic grammar and sentence structure to a presumably english-speaking adult.
And this is so grievous that my grandmother shouldn't receive compensation whatsoever?
And once more you throw granny in front of me. How much is shitting in a bag worth? For me, it's not enough to live extravagantly for the rest of your days at what is ultimately the expense of every other person who has to buy insurance.
If you want better seafood, go to an actual restaurant that knows how to prepare seafood instead of serving you freezerburnt bullshit and you might not even have to pay the difference!
Yes, yes you will still pay the difference. BTW, serving food for consumption on the premises makes it a resteraunt.
(Incidentally, why is it "fucking stupid" to be a father?)
It's not. Clumsily implying that I've said so is.
Ordinarily I'd say third time's the charm, but I don't feel like wasting the time. Have fun with the last word. Love it, pet it, call it George. I'll be off living my life.

Date: 2009-09-21 12:30 am (UTC)So the solution is to do it right and just socialize healthcare and tell the opposition to eat a dick.
If they choke, they can complain to their private insurance companies about it.
They're republicans, I'm sure they can afford it.

Date: 2009-09-21 02:17 am (UTC)I think the basics should be available to all. Let those who want better coverage buy premium insurance from private carriers. But taking my child to the ER for a unexpected high fever at 2am shouldn't cost me $2,000 because I don't qualify as "poverty stricken".
