Today was pretty awesome
Aug. 12th, 2009 02:03 amMet Laurie Patton, again, today. She did a guest lecture in Dr McClymond's Seminar in Ritual Studies, a couple of years ago. We exchanged contact info, and I'm going to make an appointment to talk with her about PhD work and a "next step." This is a wonderful development, and happened just after I'd been talking to Dennis, with whom I talked about Dr Patton, on Sunday. One of those weeks.
There are problems-- my grades weren't the best (ended grad school with a 3.4somethingorother), my field is considered fringe, and I haven't published anything "Strictly Academic," aside from my thesis-- but they aren't insurmountable. Because, when I talk to people, face to face? I can get anyone to understand anything. Try me, sometime.
Thoughts and universal occurences still riding a pretty close event-to-event ratio.
Good talk with Dennis. Good day at work.
We completely and totally imploded at Trivia, tonight. I mean like someone set a black hole on fire at the centre of a house of cards. Wow. But we are still beloved by the Vortex, and still with beer, so it's all good. We'll just have to do better, next week.
Things what need doing:
- Turn the Outline for my presentation into a Power Point Presentation
- Buy a Dragon*Con Ticket
- Decide on and finalise my next NeedCoffee piece
- Work on the Immanence of Myth piece
- Answer questions about magic, and the applications of its principles.
- Call and make an appointment to meet with Dr Laurie Patton about PhD work, possibly at Emory
- Think about what I want from a program, and what I offer a program.
- Listen to more mid-1990's David Bowie, specifically Earthling.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but this is a start, and I don't work at the coffee shop, tomorrow. So I'll have time.
Good night.
